Over 175 ALI Coalition members and guests attended the  2018 ALI Coalition Gathering and Final Symposium! The 2018 Cohort presented their final projects for social impact and got immediate feedback from past ALI Fellows and Partners.
This year's Final Symposium featured a new format that helped the 2018 Cohort receive feedback on their projects in real time. Congratulations to the 2018 ALI Fellows and Partners on the successful completion of their fellowship year and their promising projects for social impact!

Richard Murray (2018) will become the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America's new board chair. Dr. Murray's appointment comes at a time when AAFA is embracing a new strategic vision to better support patients and families in underserved communities.

Christy Wood (2018) is helping encourage progress in addressing gun safety issues in America. Ms. Wood helped convene a coalition of long-term, global institutional and private investors with combined assets of more than $4.83 trillion to create and promote Principles for a Responsible Civilian Firearms Industry.

Haifa Al Kaylani (2017) is being recognized for her efforts to enable and advance women and youth in the MENA region. Ms. Al Kaylani received the 2018 Outstanding Golden Shield Award for Advanced Leadership from the Arab Women's Council in Cairo, Egypt.

Thuli Madonsela (2017) was awarded the Order of Merit of the German Federal Republic by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Ms. Madonsela received the award for her work tackling corruption and supporting efforts to uncover the state capture scandal in South Africa.

Michael Pepe (2015) is working to enable those with special needs to live more independent and fulfilling lives. Mr. Pepe talks purpose, partners, and pivots on his project work in a recent blog post.

Steven and Mary Green Swig (2014) are growing support for their movement to cancel all student debt in the US. The Swigs hosted a conference at Harvard Law School on the student debt crisis, and their organization, Freedom to Prosper, was recently featured in an article on debt forgiveness.

Paul Irving (2010) says that as the global population ages, new opportunities will emerge. Mr. Irving authored two articles for the Harvard Business Review describing the upsides of an aging workforce and consumer base.

ALI Chair & Director Rosabeth Moss Kanter (HBS) announced the development of a new book this month . Prof. Kanter will author Think Outside the Building: How Advanced Leaders Can Change the World One Small Innovation at a Time, available in January 2020 from PublicAffairs/Hachette Book Group.

ALI Faculty Co-Chair Amy Edmondson (HBS) is shedding light on psychological safety - what it is and how it affects employee performance. Prof. Edmondson wrote a new book, The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth, drawing on 20 years of research in organizations across multiple industries.

ALI Faculty Co-Chair David Gergen (HKS) says that rapid changes in the American political landscape hold both peril and promise for the country. In an op-ed for CNN, Prof. Gergen offers his take on the midterm elections and the best thing that could happen in Washington as a result.
