Winter Weather and Windows
KEEP YOUR WINDOWS CLOSED
Good Afternoon -

While the weather is lovely right now, we are expecting cold temperatures over the weekend. It is important to understand why your windows need to remain closed. The Office of Residence Life and Housing is providing this notice to avoid potential damage.

Please review this message thoroughly as you will be held responsible for damage due to frozen pipes when windows are left open during freezing weather.
The Consequences

When the windows are left open, the heating and cooling units are forced to work harder than intended causing various heating and cooling problems.

Pipes in your heating & cooling systems exposed to outside temperatures can freeze and burst allowing water to flow out of the units and into student rooms.

In the past this has caused damage, not only to student property in the offending room, but in surrounding rooms as well. Please be aware of this information and keep your windows closed during times of freezing temperatures so that possible damage can be prevented.
