Choosing the right executor
First and foremost, just because you have been named in someone's Will as the Executor of their Estate does not mean that you are automatically the Executor as soon as that person has died.  Being named in someone's Will as their Executor only means that you have been nominated.  The probate court must appoint you as the Executor before you have legal power to pay that person's bills and distribute their money and property.  You cannot do that without the probate court's approval first.    Read full article.

The General Court is considering two bills of note dealing with roads this year.  One bill would affect the non-maintenance period for highways to summer cottages, and the other is a renewed effort to impose maintenance obligations on owners of residential property on private roads.   Read full article.

I nformational Seminar At Our Office June 27th from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Come  join us to hear what's happening where you live! Four speakers will talk for 10 minutes on topics that you want to keep up-to-date on. Enjoy some refreshments afterwards with Q & A.  We start off with Curtis Barry, Lobbyist.  He will be wrapping up the 2019 Legislative Session in review.  This is very timely as it is the last day the House and Senate are in session for the year.  Liz Nolin will be keeping everyone on the edge of their seat with her engaging topic on keeping your property safe in the summer.  Paul Alfano will give tips on how to reduce taxes on seasonal real estate. Ending with a bang will be Jim Soucy discussing motor vehicles, boats, ohrv, and campers being correctly titled into your estate plan to avoid unnecessary cost, delay, and problems.  We are located in the heart of Concord at 4 Park Street, Suite 405, at the corner of Main and Park.  Easy street parking.  RSVP to cheryl@alfanolawoffice.com.  You won't want to miss this.

Stop Lying to Yourself
Everyday, in some way, each of us begins each new day by lying to ourselves that nothing "bad" will happen to us today.  It's like its' part of our human nature.  We know that people are involved in accidents every day that end their lives or incapacitate them; that's just it, we tell ourselves that it will happen to someone else - not us.  However,  if everyone else is also saying that accidents, injuries, and death will happen to someone else, that "someone else" is you.  Read full article.

homestead versus mortgage
Homestead is a right to occupy one's primary residence. Homestead also has a set value of $120,000, which comes into play when creditors circle the waters.
