NCCP Swimming Teacher

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is for Instructors who wish to become trained and/or certified as a coach for competitive or non-competitive swimming programs. This program is administrated by the NCCP and Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) and is distinct from the Lifesaving Society leadership pathway.

NCCP and CAC have recognized the Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor course. As a result, Swim and Lifesaving Instructors are eligible to apply for the NCCP Swimming Teacher certification. The NCCP Swimming Teacher application form can be found at http://www.lifesaving.org under ' Find a Form' . Application forms must be submitted to [email protected]. The Lifesaving Society will verify the information and will send the application to the Swimming National Canada (SNC). Once the application is approved by SNC they will contact the Instructor with a NCCP# and the instructor can complete the NCCP Swimming Teacher certification process.

SwimAbilities Instructor

The SwimAbilities Instructor Course prepares instructors to teach SwimAbilities, a multi-leveled learn to swim program that is geared towards participants aged 3 to 16 with special needs. The course prepares instructors to apply Lifesaving Society level 2 leadership competencies and strategies designed to teach candidates requiring additional support for skill development and safety routines.

Prerequisite: current Swim or Lifesaving Instructor

Dates and Times:         Saturday, January 12 & Sunday, January 13, 2019

                                             Sat: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

                                               Sun: 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Lifesaving Society Office Closure

Please be advised that the Lifesaving Society office will be closed for the holidays from December 24th, 2018 until January 1st, 2019. The office will re-open Tuesday, January 2 at 8:30am.

Since it is a busy season, we kindly ask that you submit your orders by Monday, December 19^th.

The last day we will be shipping orders will be Thursday, December 20^th.

The Lifesaving Society is hiring for 2 positions; Drowning Prevention Coordinator (Contract/Full Time - Closing Date is December 24) and Member Services and Operations Manager (Full Time - Closing Date is December 24). Mandatory Course Registration Process Update

The Society is replacing the Mandatory Course Registration Form by requiring all affiliate members to post ALL certification courses for the public on our website www.lifesaving.org.

Scheduling a course on the Society website is completed by using the Course Management function available to affiliates through the affiliate member login. Follow the affiliate guide or contact the Society with any questions on how to schedule a course.

Affiliates must also remember to order course materials a minimum of seven (7) business days in advance of the course start date and are responsible for confirming the instructors and/or trainers have the correct certifications to teach the course and are current.

Canada Post Strike - Rotating Strikes Ended

Canada Post is working on stabilizing operations after the end of the rotating strikes. With their backlogs, all customers can continue to expect delivery delays for the next several weeks.

For product orders the Lifesaving Society will continue to ship using Canada Post unless the order is indicated as a rush or there are specific order notes requesting shipment through a different courier. Please keep in mind that the cost of shipping will increase for these situations.

Lifesaving Medal for Service Award Citation

On November 9^th, Bruce Hogle was presented with the Lifesaving Medal for Service Award Citation for his outstanding dedication, commitment and contributions to the Society in a private ceremony with Her Honour, the Honourable Lois Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, at the Lieutenant Governor's office.

2019 World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published the 2019 Prohibited List. The list will come into effect on January 1, 2019. The Prohibited List id the international standard for identifying substances and methods banned in sport. First published in 1963 by the International Olympic Committee and published by WADA since 2004, this list is updated annually.

Athletes are responsible for ensuring that they are compliant with the Lifesaving Society Anti-Doping policies including adherence to the current Prohibited List. It should be noted that while recreational use of cannabis has been legalized in Canada, cannabinoids remain on the Prohibited List and Athletes testing positive for cannabinoids may face penalties and/or sanctions by provincial, national and international sporting bodies.

Athletes on prescribed medications on the Prohibited List may apply for a medical exemption. Athletes who require medical exemption should access resources on the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport https://www.cces.ca
