This monthly newsletter will provide timely wellness tips and strategies, information about upcoming events, and health-related news and announcements.

As we approach the end of the semester, we've got you covered with tips for managing test-taking anxiety and a week's worth of Stressbusters to help you finish strong.

3 Tips for Managing Test-Taking Anxiety
1. Breathe deeply.

When you feel your heart racing or your mind spinning, take deep breaths. Deep breathing shuts down your "fight or flight" stress response and helps improve your focus and attention. Try "7/11" breathing (breathe in for 7 counts, breathe out for 11 counts) or watch a guided meditation video on YouTube .

2. Keep a growth mindset.

Remember that every exam, no matter the grade, is an opportunity to learn. Think about the times you haven't done as well as you had hoped on a test or assignment. What have you learned from those experiences? How can you take those lessons and use them to prepare for your next challenge? Be proud of your progress, and avoid the trap of aiming for perfection.

3. Don't be afraid to get help.

Many students find it beneficial to talk to someone when they're feeling anxious or overwhelmed. You can strategize with your academic advisor , or speak with a counselor at the Brandeis Counseling Center .
RISE
Orientation Program
January Session

Starting college is exciting, but it is also a big transition full of new experiences and challenges. RISE is a program for students who would benefit from learning skills to help them thrive in college, supporting their mental well-being and academic success.

This program is designed for students who have previously experienced depression and/or anxiety. It is open to all class years. Students will work in small groups with faculty and clinicians from the BCC. Learning is primarily experiential with discussions and hands on opportunities to practice skills. In the evenings, the group will participate in fun activities, such as relaxation practices, making stress kits and watching a movie. Learn more

The Art of Resilience:
Strategies to Thrive in a Stressful World

Looking for something fun and meaningful to round out your spring course load? HWL 42: The Art of Resilience is a new course offering this spring, open to all undergrads .

This 6-week course teaches practical strategies to manage stress, meet challenges with a positive mindset, adapt to change, and grow from failure.

In this course, students will engage in self-reflection, participate in meaningful class discussions and activities, try out new stress management techniques, and challenge themselves to be vulnerable.

Look for HWL 42: The Art of Resilience when registration opens on December 5th!

Following the Flu

The Health Center still has flu vaccine available. Students can walk in for this service Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM or 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Handwashing is the best way to decrease your exposure to viral infections.
