Daily Devotional Podcast

You may join me for a part of my own daily devotionals by sharing in the podcast below.  It runs about 15 or so minutes.

Daily Update

On this Monday after Easter things have been pretty quiet.  We are still trying to find out where Susan Bales is...if anyone knows.  We know that she was released from Sara Bush, but have not been able to get ahold of her.

I am planning to start up my Bible Study groups sometime later this week.  I'll be contacting those who regularly attended on Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening to work out a way we can connect.  If anyone else would like to join us (probably on Zoom), please let me know.  More details in the next couple days.

The responses to our Holy Week videos and the Easter Day video were very encouraging.  While it was difficult to be apart from each other, it was also good to see familiar faces on the video, hear our favorite Easter music, and know that we are still connected in spirit.

Life Goes On

Today, April 13, is Scrabble Day.  We don't play that game in our house.  Since English is Jie's second language, she refuses to play any "word" related games...which I inevitably win.  But she will play math or card games...which she inevitable wins.  I can, however, at least give a wistful thought to Scrabble today.

It is also International FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) Day.  One of those diseases that science knows very little about, it is a breakdown of communication between the brain and the body, even when both seem to be working fine on their own.  Hard to research and diagnose, it is often the cause of anything from chronic pain to immobility.  While we DO understand many health problems, there are also vast areas that still escape our ability to diagnose and treat.  Prayer for all those suffering from those diseases.

Today is also Thomas Jefferson Day.  Long considered one of our very best presidents (he appears on Mt. Rushmore, after all) his personality and character were much more complicated.  Most of his contributions to our national life actually came before he was elected president.  In fact, on his tombstone, he mentions things like being the author of the Declaration of Independence, but he didn't think it was worth mentioning that he was president of the United States.  We celebrate his birthday today.
