We have three new loan librarians that are now working with us to process and handle all orders. If you have not had a chance to meet Carlos, Linnzi and Jay, you will have a chance at FETC in January or ATIA in February! 

 

The FETC Conference has been re-branded with a new name, Future of Education Technology Conference. The FETC Conference is January 12-15, 2016 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando. The ATIA conference will be in Orlando as well on February 2-6, 2016 at the Caribe Royale Convention Center. Both of these conferences showcase the newest and latest in educational technology and assistive technology. Be sure to take notes and/or pictures of new items that you would like to see available in the loan library to support the needs of your students. We are currently working on a form that you can use to submit suggestions for new items. We will let you know when it is ready to use. 

 

The TLC team is constantly trying to improve the loan library process. Please let us know if you any suggestions for improvement or changes. Below are some more tips for making your loan library experience better. 

  1. If you have items that you would like to return before the holidays, just let us know.
  2. Ensure that you add all items needed to your order and not just in the notes section. If in doubt as to what you need exactly, give us a call or email us and we'll be happy to assist.  
  3. Verify your mailing address during the check-out process. Your shipping address should be a business/school location and not a home address. We do not mind shipping items directly to the location you will be using them, just make sure you change the address during the order process. 
  4. As the borrower, you are responsible for the items you check out. All communication will go to you as well as return labels from Fedex. It is important that you handle the facilitation of the returns to limit any confusion.  

NOTICE: The AT & UDL Loan Library will be closed December 23, 2015 - January 3, 2016 for the holidays. The TLC Team will return to work on January 4, 2016.

The VisioBook Portable Electronic Magnifier and Distance Viewer is a high quality, full-color reading device for students with visual impairments. It features a  12-inch HD full-color widescreen monitor with LED-backlight and i ntuitive operation with 6 clearly marked buttons and a zoom dial. Viewing modes include  5 reversible color combinations, full natural colors, and the automatic focus can be switched on and off. It is powered by an external power adapter or can run up to 5 hours on its rechargable litium-ion battery. With its 30x magnification power and simply rotating the camera this could be the perfect solution for students who struggle to see objects in a distance such as teacher presentations on the interactive whiteboard or reading notes on the chalkboard.

Mouse Alternatives

The Jouse3  is an alternative mouse solution for students who have control of their mouth, chin, tongue or cheek to use a computer, switch-controlled device, AAC system or mobile device. The further the joystick moves, the faster the cursor travels. The cursor movement is fast, smooth and very accurate, which is great for drawing and playing games. Students can perform right-click, left-click and double-click actions with the sip and puff switches built into the Jouse3. .

Cheap Talk 4 In-Line
Communication

The Cheap Talk 4 Inline with Overlay Option is a self- contained communication device which allows you to record and play back four different messages of up to 5 seconds each. This model has an insert overlay to facilitate the use of interchangeable picture cards, which can be slipped behind the switch plate face. The student simply touches one of the 2-inch square pictures to activate a pre- recorded message. The unit can be secured to any smooth surface using the attached suction cups. This is a great solution for providing students who struggle with communication an opportunity to communicate within an academic activity, greeting others, joke of the day or table talk during snack or lunch.
