Dear Friend:

This past week, we marked the passing of President George H. W. Bush and honored his sacrifice, personal loyalty and service to our nation. We honor and salute his commitment to decency and civility, in spite of our differences. I send my deepest condolences to his family.

Last Monday, I had the honor of voting with my Senate Democratic colleagues for my longtime friend and colleague State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins for Majority Leader of the New York State Senate. It was a historic day for New Yorkers . Read more about the new NYS Senate Majority Leader-elect in the section below.

Thank you to the more than 100 people who have RSVP'd for my upcoming Annual Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 13th! If you haven't had a chance to RSVP,   click here. More details about the event are available in the 37th District News section below.

Last night many celebrated the first night of Hanukkah, and as I lit the first candle with my family, I looked ahead to the many candle lightings throughout the District.

With the many upcoming tree lighting ceremonies and holiday parties throughout the district, I hope to see many of you soon.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to my office if we can help you with an issue at 914-934-5250 or [email protected].

BREAKING THE GLASS CEILING
IN THE NY STATE SENATE

At the start of the 2019 Legislative Session, State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins will be elected as the new Majority Leader of the New York State Senate. Senator Stewart-Cousins will be the first woman in New York State history to lead a legislative chamber. This is a historic moment for New York State.

Senator Stewart-Cousins first got involved in politics over 30 years ago in my hometown of Yonkers, NY. From her local advocacy, she quickly rose through the ranks and in 1992 became the Director of Community Affairs for the City of Yonkers. From 1996 to 2006 she served on the Westchester County Board of Legislators where she also held the positions of Majority Whip and Vice Chair of the Board. First elected to the State Senate in 2006, her colleagues elected her to serve as the Leader of the Senate Democratic Conference in 2012.

I was proud to vote for Senator Stewart-Cousins to serve as the Majority Leader of the New York State Senate. She is someone who has strong values and a strong moral compass, will work hard for all New Yorkers, regardless of where they live, and knows how to build consensus around important issues.
