Recovery-oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R) Video Series is Now Available

Thanks to a grant awarded to the NYS Office of Mental Health, CPI has worked with experts from the Aaron T. Beck Psychopathology Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania to create a series of nine videos focusing on Recovery-oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R).

CT-R was designed for people diagnosed with serious mental illness and is based upon a number of principles including:
  • What people think effects how they feel and what they do
  • Recovery extends to all
  • There are concrete and effective procedures for bringing about recovery
  • All individuals have an adaptive mode within them and everyone who works with them can collaborate to promote flourishing
Learning objectives of this video series are:
  • Become familiar with the CT-R approach
  • Understand the empirical support for CT-R
  • Describe the activities associated with CT-R
  • Understand how to user CT-R to address important issues such as negative symptoms, trauma, delusions and hallucinations
  • Become familiar with the implementation of CT-R in treatment settings
The nine video topics are:
  1. Overview of Recovery-oriented Cognitive Therapy
  2. Meeting the individual where they are at
  3. Dreaming big:  Developing the adaptive mode with meaningful aspirations
  4. Living large:  Meaning through positive action
  5. Strengthening the adaptive mode
  6. Challenges to progress:  Negative symptoms and challenges with communication
  7. Challenges to progress:  Trauma, aggression and self-injury
  8. Challenges to progress:  Delusions and hallucinations
  9. Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy on the milieu
Continuing education credits for completion of this video series are available to social workers, licensed mental health counselors, and CASACs.
