Whitefish Legacy Partners along with 55 other community non-profits   have been accepted in the 2020 Great Fish Community  Challenge! During the last five years, the Great Fish  Challenge has raised over $9 million for our local non-profits making the Flathead Valley a better place to live and play. Participating profits  will receive a percentage match on your donations given during the Challenge, so give BIG this summer.

WLP PRIMARY USE OF FUNDS: Funds will support maintenance projects on the Whitefish Trail such as tread work at Lion Mountain, Woods Lake, and Haskill, brushing and drainage work, Adopt-A-Trail volunteer crew support and training, replacement of damaged trail signs, and trailhead cleaning and plowing.

WLP SECONDARY USE OF FUNDS: Additional funds will support Whitefish Legacy Partners' ongoing programs to secure permanent conservation at Smith Lake, provide recreation access on the Whitefish Trail system, and provide free outdoor education opportunities.
Whitefish Trail Report - Late July
by Alan Myers-Davis, WLP Director of Development
From an undisclosed location on the Whitefish Trail

Although the trails are getting dry and dusty, this huckleberry season has been a bumper crop so far! Low elevation berries on the Whitefish Trail won't be ripe for much longer as they head up the mountains to cooler weather. The harvest slowly ripens as you gain elevation, and by late August the ripe berries are high in the alpine environments above the valley. Grab an empty gallon jug or a basket and see if you can find a honey hole of good picking.

With temps in the 90's, Beaver Lakes is the place to be during this heat wave. Have you been out to Woods Lake yet? You can hike or bike a three-mile loop and see four scenic lakes. You better take a swim suit and some goggles because the water is perfect right now for an afternoon dip. We are lucky in NW Montana to have so many lakes easily accessible on our local public lands.

There have been a few trees down lately, and we are replacing a few outdated trailhead signs this week. For those wondering, we are getting a quote to replace and fix the donation box at Lion Mountain. Luckily, we can reuse the post but will have to get a new drawer welded. Stay tuned!

As you get out and explore the Whitefish Trail this summer, we'd love to see your photos and hear your trail stories!
