Anna Claire, one of our diabetic brown Capuchins, was seen not using her right arm. After having x-rays taken by our vet Dr. Schirmer of West End Animal Hospital, it was determined that Anna Claire broke her radius and ulna.
Dr. Schirmer consulted with The University of Florida's Zoological Department about our options to care for Anna Claire's arm best and allow for the fastest recovery. Casts are not always the best option for wild animals, including monkeys. Therefore the decision was made to use metal plates on her broken bones to stabilize them for healing.
Anna Claire recovering inside after surgery
Surgery was a success and was followed by a few days of 24 hour care by our care staff to make sure she did not pick at her incision site and was recovering well from the procedure. Just four days after surgery Anna Claire was able to reunited with her sister Katie Scarlett. Anna Claire is still restricted to her indoor enclosure and runway access for a few more weeks. She will need to have follow up x-rays taken to assure the bones are healed before being cleared to have access to her outdoor habitat again.
Now we need your help, Anna Claire's total surgery cost and follow up care comes to $4,000. So far, our wonderful supporters have donated $2,715.32 towards her vet bills! THANK YOU!!
We are $1,284,68 away from reaching our goal and we need your help!
