Advent Adult Education: This Sunday, December 8 through December 22 at 9:30 am and Thursdays December 12 and December 19 at 7 pmEveryday Living Within God The Bible says we live and move and have our being within God.   In this Advent season, we are looking at ways to deepen our experience of this ever-present God, in daily lives that are overworked, over-scheduled, and over-stressed.  The good news is, God is already trying to start the conversation; we just need to discover ways of listening.

Join us this Sunday, December 8 for our first Advent Holiday Festival Party with lunch provided by BS Troop 97 (fundraiser), a cookie potluck (bring cookies to share), caroling, ugly sweater contest and card making and crafts.

A Message from Father David
We are preparing for the nomination of new members to the vestry.  If you are approached to serve, please give serious consideration to saying "Yes!" Serving on the vestry is an important ministry and an opportunity to work with truly gifted and fun people.  We begin each meeting with a reflection on the following Sunday's gospel and we end on time so come join us! As part of this year's nominating process we are also filling the Senior/Rector's Warden position.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss serving as the Senior Warden, please contact me or Deena Groshong.  David+

Crossway Community Christmas Tree is Here! Tags are still on the tree for our annual  opportunity to pick a tag, purchase the item requested, and place it UNWRAPPED under the tree in the Narthex by Sunday, December 15.  Gift options were provided by the Crossway Community staff and are aimed toward both mothers and  children.  For almost 30 years, Crossway Community's program has offered supportive housing, information and referral services to single mothers seeking an education and job placement.  It is a strength-based, family centered, Montessori inspired community. Questions? You may contact Nina Scott at [email protected]

UPCOMING

Christmas FlowersIf you would like  to remember or celebrate someone and contribute toward the Christmas flowers, please fill out a "Christmas flower envelope" (on the desk in the Narthex). Please fill out the dedication information and place the envelope in the collection plate or the lock box. Donations are $50.

Fall Cleanup, December 15 after the 10:30 am service. Lunch will be provided.  Bring rakes and tarps for leaf raking and cleaning supplies for indoor cleaning.

Ho ho ho!  Santa's elves are setting up a Christmas Shop at Good Shepherd!  The shop will be open for business on Sunday, December 15 from 12-2 pm. The Christmas Shop gives children the opportunity to pick out gifts for their parents and other family members, and it has become an annual tradition at Good Shepherd. We are also inviting the other congregations who share our faith space to bring their kids to the shop - so we really need your donations! Please donate gently used items for men and women - neckties, costume jewelry, home decor, kitchen gadgets, tools, DVDs, etc. There will be a marked bin for drop off at the church. If you can volunteer to help shoppers or wrap presents - we are looking for a few more elves!   Call Buffy Elliott at 703-298-5674 with any questions!

Simulcast Christmas Service, Saturday, December 21 at 9:30 am.  A tradition of the season that brings hope and joy to all who participate either in person or online.  The 13th annual Simulcast Service takes place between the Washington National Cathedral and the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church located in Bethlehem, Palestine. Readings, prayers and carols in both English and Arabic alternate back and forth between Washington and the "Little Town of Bethlehem" in the joining together through modern technology of worshippers around the world.  As residents of the larger DC community, we have two options to participate:
Option One is to be at the Cathedral in person with an opportunity to view the annual display of Nativity scenes and shop in the Cathedral stores following the one hour service.
Option Two is to watch online by accessing either cathedral.org or youtube.com/wncathedral For additional information, please contact Greg or Lynn Wood at [email protected].  Greg and Lynn are both members of the Holy Land Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, which is responsible for coordinating this Simulcast Christmas Service.
