Principals' Message

As we approach the last few days of the school year, we express our gratitude for all that you and your students have done this year! We'd like to highlight the IB learner profile trait of reflection. As we look back, let’s reflect on the growth attained over this past year.

End-of-year celebrations (like the one Middle School had on Wednesday and Prom and graduation coming up for High school) mark a special time in our students' journey in their lives and education. Take a moment and talk to your student about their memories from this year and find something to celebrate!
Next Wednesday, the last day of school, is a FULL Length day!

Secondary students have a full length day (4 pm dismissal) and follow a regular bell schedule (B-day), including advisory.
COVID Vaccination Records and On Campus Vaccination Opportunities

  • Parents/Guardians will need to accompany children
  • IDs are not required for children
  • The Pfizer vaccine will be offered

  • July 12 first dose/2nd dose Aug 2 (Registration opens later)
Summer Camp Information Session (Grades K-8) tonight, May 20, at 5:30 pm
Given the circumstances we all have faced this past year, we recognize a need to provide additional support to students. Because space is limited, initial admission was on an invitation-only basis. (If you received an invitation and have not responded, please do so as soon as possible).

We have some additional available spots for grades 6-8. Please email [email protected] if you would like for your child to attend the summer camp. Open slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

See our camp page for details about our 2021 Summer Camp.

Return borrowed school items through Friday

There are still more than 100 library books checked out, as well as art supplies, design materials, math manipulatives, and more, that can be returned to the school through Friday.

Families can drop off anything owed to the school to the front office from 7:45 am – 4:30 pm. Please label the items with your student’s full name, grade level, and the teacher it belongs to.

Return Chromebooks and Laptops May 26 from 5–7 pm

Please bring up all loaned devices and chargers the last day of school from 5 pm to 7 pm. We will have a carline style drop off at the Lions Cage between the Primary and Middle school buildings. You will not have to get out of cars. Make sure all items are labeled with the student's full name and grade, as well as the teacher (if applicable). If this date/time does not work for you, you can bring items back early between May 17-21 during school hours.
Internet discounts through National School Lunch Program
We're sharing this news from the FCC:

Families who have received approval for benefits under the National School Lunch Program (as well as 20-21 Pell Grant recipients) are eligible for the FCC's new Emergency Broadband Benefit Program, which provides a temporary monthly discount of up to $50 per month for broadband service.

There is also a one-time discount for a device (laptop, desktop, or tablet).

See details and how to sign up. Eligible households can find participating internet service providers in their area by entering their zip code into the Companies Near Me tool.
High School Student Project:
Summer Book Club for Meridian Students
9th grader Priyanka Naphade is offering two book clubs this summer, one for primary age and the other for Middle School students who will be in grades 6-8 next year.

Meetings will consist of group readings, activities based on the book we're reading, and discussions. She also plans on having a Google Classroom where discussions can take place outside of our weekly meetings.

Priyanka has a selection of books they will choose from as a group. The middle school division selections consist of: Six of crows, Shadow and Bone, The Heroes of Olympus, and more.

Overall, Priyanka wants to create a community where people can have a place to talk about books and find their next great read.

The first meeting is scheduled for May 29. Interested? Sign up here.

Math Summer e-Camps

As an IB World school, Meridian’s math track is intentionally accelerated. This will ensure that the majority of our students will complete Algebra II by the end of sophomore year and be on track to pursue the IB Diploma.

In order to be prepared for math in the 2021-22 school year, we recommend your student spend time improving skills this summer. These free, online suggestions can be found on Ms. Riley's website at wendyriley.weebly.com under the Meridian Summer E-Camps tab.

If you have questions or if issues arise with the links, please let Ms. Riley know. Happy Mathing!
Regarding Executive Order for Public Schools and Masks starting June 5

While we're working through how best to support each of our students and teachers this summer and next school year, we share this:

Governor Greg Abbott issued an Executive Order prohibiting government entities, including public schools, from mandating masks starting June 5, 2021. This includes Meridian School. We will comply with the law. We encourage unvaccinated students and adults to continue wearing masks on campus to protect themselves and those who cannot get vaccinated.

The Executive Order takes effect June 5; current school policy stands until then.
Last Chance to Order Yearbook

Balfour had some technical difficulties with the online yearbook store, so the deadline to order a yearbook with free name engraving on the cover has been extended to May 20. If you are not sure if you ordered a yearbook, please email Mr. Manuszak at [email protected].
