Cypress Creek High School

Monday marks the start of a new month and the final three weeks of school both for 2018 and for the 2018-2019 first semester. I do want to encourage our Bears to make the most of these final three weeks of school for the calendar year. You see, once we return from the 2018 winter break it will not be too long before we need to start reviewing for the annual Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) in addition to covering new course material. This is why each day of instruction during December through January will be even more important.

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. Thank you very much for looking over some of our more recent "Bear Happenings" as brought out below. Have a great week!

CCHS World Languages - Vive la France!

French National Week
Ms. Mège's classroom door captured the spirit of French National Week. This is a week-long celebration of all things French by students studying French in high schools across America (Nov. 1-7, 2018).

'Tis the Season!
This past Tuesday, French club members were decorating the classroom to be ready for Christmas! We all enjoyed and had fun together putting up the Christmas tree and some decorations around the classroom. Students who participated: Karla Mendez Calzado, Marla Mendez Calzado, Erika Silva, Jabdiel Laboy Santana, Eilysha Cruz, Bryanna Mohan, Mary Gonzalez Delgado, Pedro Gonzalez Delgado, and Tainah Thompson.

Talented Bears - 3D Art
"Talk to the Hand / Super Kidz 2018" student art with Mr. Marin

Like all students in any art class, this amazing group of students will fall on a wide spectrum of artistic ability. Some students won't possess the fine motor skills necessary to make typical grade-level work. On the other hand, some students with autism will be the most talented students you'll ever teach. It's important to understand where your students' skills are and meet them there. Beautiful things happens when we open the window of art expression to them: they live, laugh and love it! My Champions in Art!!!

Monday's Motivational Moment!

OLIVIA McKENNA SETS A TERRIFIC EXAMPLE

Olivia McKenna is an 11th grade student who is learning braille. For the last two years, Olivia participated in the "Teach-In" at Waterbridge Academy. Olivia recently presented to a 4th grade class teaching them about braille and mobility (below). She independently created a PowerPoint that she used while teaching the students, and she had the students work in centers that allowed students to experience using a braille writer plus touch and explore a variety of braille books. Olivia also demonstrated the use of a white cane and had students work in groups to use the cane with a blindfold on to create a simulated experience of an individual with a visual impairment.

We are all so proud of Olivia's work with the elementary students. Thank you Olivia!
