Advent Lessons & Carols
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was first celebrated at King's College, Cambridge on Christmas Eve, 1918. It was an adaptation of a similar service that had been written for the cathedral at Truro in 1880. The lessons were reordered in 1919, and what we will see and hear are the lessons that have been used since that time. At King's College, the Festival is a Christmas Eve service, and the lessons, and music, move deliberately from the season of Advent into Christmastide. Many other parishes have adopted the tradition, occasionally modifying it as needed. Come join us for a festive and spiritually lifting break from the Season’s stresses!

FOOD BANK MAKES SPECIAL REQUEST
The Food Bank would like to thank you for your generous support at our last fundraiser.
With the cold weather coming we are now collecting oatmeal. We will continue that until we get 200 containers of oatmeal. It is too expensive to purchase from the County Food Bank. Along with that if you can help donate hats, mittens or jackets for our neighbors that are seeking shelter it is always greatly appreciated during the cold winter months for them.
Thank you again for your generosity and support.

Important dates in December…

Dec 23rd: Greening of the church following 10am service
Perhaps the most striking and the most universal feature of Christmas is the use of evergreens in churches and homes. Among ancient Romans evergreens were an emblem of peace, joy, and victory. Early Christians placed them in their windows to indicate that Christ had entered the home. Holly and ivy, along with pine, and fir are called evergreens because they never change color. They are ever-green, ever-alive, even in the midst of winter. Thus they can well symbolize the unchanging nature of our God, remind us of the everlasting life that is ours through Christ Jesus. You are invited to come decorate the cathedral in the “Greening of the Church.”
