Newsletter for Parents and Friends of
Beaumont School

December 2 - 8, 2018
Dear Parents and Friends,

The holiday season is an especially busy time for everyone and Beaumont is no exception. With so many events planned, the breadth and depth of talent possessed by our student body will be on full display during the few weeks leading up to Christmas break.

In athletics, the winter sports season has officially begun. The Blue Streaks Varsity Basketball Team kicked off the season with an impressive road victory, winning 74-60 against Chagrin Falls last Night. Their first home game will be against Holy Name on Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m. Also, our swim team will begin competition on Friday, December 7 (with Benedictine) at Cleveland Heights High School. Their first home meet will be against Hathaway Brown on Thursday, December 13.

For those interested in a different kind of live performance, we have great musical concerts and a drama performance planned. To help celebrate the holy season we will be hosting our Christmas concert with Benedictine on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at Our Lady of Peace Church. The concert will include our Choristers, Chamber and Jazz Orchestra, as well as Voices of Harmony. Our drama department will also be performing Stephen Gregg’s comedy “This Is a Test”. This production will be performed by our young thespians on Wednesday, December 12 in our theatre.

We hope you are able to join us for one or many of these great events. For more information about these and other happenings, please see the reminders below.

Mission Integration

As we look forward to the season of Advent, we remember the lives and ministries of Ursuline Sr. Dorothy Kazel and her companions in mission Maryknoll, Sisters Ita Ford and Maura Clark and laywoman Jean Donovan. It was 38 years ago, on December 2 nd , 1980 that they gave their lives in service to the poor of El Salvador. As we await the coming of the Prince of Peace, we remember the areas of the world engulfed in war and conflict. The civil strife which claimed the lives of these four churchwomen in El Salvador continues to exist throughout the world and still claims the lives of the powerless, the marginalized and those who work for peace and justice in unjust societies. ,Those in power often maintain control by taking advantage of those who have no voice and often have no one to speak for them. As we remember Sr. Dorothy and her companions, we pray for the poor of the world but we must also raise our voices to call attention to their plight.
Campus Ministry News

With Thanksgiving behind us, we look ahead to the Advent and Christmas season. On Tuesday, the Social Justice Club along with the Beaumont Music Department entertained the folks at Judson with a Christmas concert with seasonal songs by the choirs and the orchestra. The students helped the residents to decorate the two-story Christmas tree in the grand lobby and provided delicious Christmas cookies. What a beautiful start to the season!

This Sunday we begin the season of Advent and our preparation for the feast of the Nativity of our Lord. May this be a time of reflection and prayer as we remember the true cause for our upcoming celebration!
