Independence is a basic human right that is valued by all. For an elderly person, independence means something very precious. A major component of independence is feeling in control. Approximately 9 out of 10 people over age 65 want to continue living in their own homes.

DC and MD Mental and Behavioral Health Units to Merge!
Family Matters of Greater Washington (FMGW) is pleased to announce the realignment and reorganization of our Mental Health units under a single leadership team comprised of Rashida E. Winslow and Tasha Salley-Leroy as co-leader. The goal of this realignment is to better coordinate delivery of services across both programs, utilizing our resources and managing consistent and high quality outcomes. Our mental health units are accredited by the Council on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).    Read More  
Staff Spotlight
Natasha Corbin is the Nurse Care Manager at Family Matters of Greater Washington. She graduated with a nursing degree from Drexel University and currently resides in Virginia. At Family Matters, she works with the adult population by promoting a better lifestyle.

"It's rewarding when you actually start having dialogue with consumers," explained Natasha. "Especially when they mention how this program has changed their life and how much more they actually pay attention to what they do."

July 23rd is Parent's Day

In 1994 President Bill Clinton established Parents' Day for recognizing, uplifting and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children. This special day, celebrated on July 23 rd, is a monumental time to strengthen our community. Family Matters appreciates all parents in Greater Washington for being the building blocks of our future generations.

Event Recap: Health 360°
One invaluable aspect of mental illness treatment is having a strong support system. With more than 75 program directors, clinical managers, therapists and intake coordinators on staff, Family Matters Mental and Behavioral Health team is always here to help. We enjoyed two fun evenings with our Oxon Hill and Washington D.C communities doing all things health related!
