D ear Lancer Families,

I want to share some important updates on what we have been working on as a whole school staff. On Oct 26, our staff members collaborated together during a day of professional development. One of top strategies in our School Improvement Plan is to purposefully collaborate and reflect as professional learning communities in inquiry cycles around a critical reading process. We believe adult actions matter, and that by reflecting on our practices and student outcomes, we’ll identify ways to improve together as we support students to engage in critical reading.

Fall Play - Arsenic and Old Lace
Join us for a hair-raising laugh at La Follette's fall production of Arsenic and Old Lace. Two elderly sisters, Abby and Martha, are doing the charitable work of the Lord by helping old and lonely men... by killing them! This play, written by Joseph Kesselring and adapted into the classic 1944 Frank Capra and Cary Grant film, is a first-rate specimen of dark comedy. Come witness the family-friendly mischief and mayhem!

Arsenic and Old Lace features La Follette students Annabelle Reynolds (10th), Korra Schroeder (12th), Mad Brandt (10th), Toby MacFarlane (10th), Lucy Murphy (9th), Grace Reynolds (12th), Mina Linsenmayer (10th), Colton Curley (11th), Ray Hall (10th), Hyrum Oliphant (12th), Hawa Bah (12th), John Verdecia (12th), Paulina Baker (12th), and Olivia Zielke (9th).

Friendship Connection, Inc - German Exchange Program
Be a part of The Friendship Connection, Inc, a four week home- and home German exchange program for high school students in the U.S. and Germany. You can just host a German exchange student for a month OR host a German AND travel to Germany as an exchange student yourself.

Your German partner would visit you from April to May 2013. He/She would be the same age and gender as you, share similar interests, live with your family and attend our school. If you choose to return the visit you would travel to Germany from June to July 2013 and visit your same partner in Germany, live with his/her family and attend a couple weeks of school.

The cost will be around $1,650 for those traveling to Germany. This price includes airfare, accident/illness insurance, transportation to and from the Frankfurt Airport in Germany, teacher supervision and all administrative costs. Room and board is provided by the German host family in exchange for similar accommodations when the German participant visits you in the spring.

La Follette students/families who are not learning German and simply want to host a student from Germany are more than welcome to do so.
