Open Enrollment for K-8...FIVE Days Left!

Only FIVE days left before the first round of Open Enrollment closes! Incoming siblings of current students, Founding Families, and children of Staff must complete Open Enrollment through DCSD's Open Enrollment Page by December 3 at 4:00pm to be eligible for priority enrollment.

All K-8 siblings who complete Open Enrollment by December 3 at 4:00pm are given priority and will be enrolled in any available spots before new students from the general public. All Preschool and Pre-K siblings interested in 2019-20 enrollment should complete the Preschool Application available on our website after January 9, 2019.

All families who have completed Open Enrollment will need to log back into their DCSD EngageED Parent Portal account after December 10 at 8:00am to view/accept/deny all enrollment offers. Families will have until December 17 at 4:00pm to accept or deny any offers. If families do not accept or deny offers, they will fall to the waitlist for second round open enrollment.

* Please note that this does not apply to currently enrolled Preschool, Pre-K, and K-8th Grade students, but does apply to siblings of current WCA students.

If you have any questions, please email the School Registrar, Mary Bertke.

St. Nicolas Celebration on December 6

The WCA French program is pleased to organize a school-wide cultural event on Thursday, December 6 . St. Nicolas is celebrated in Europe and has its origin back in the year 300 in an area now called Turkey. St. Nicolas was known to help the needy and has influenced todays Santa Claus. Part of the tradition involves children putting out their shoe the night before and receiving some gifts.

On the day of our event:
  • All K-8 students may wear pajamas.
  • K-4th grade will listen to an educational video and a read-a-loud. One of the favorite highlights will be a ''visit'' from St. Nicolas (Shhh! It is a secret!)
  • During lunch, hot chocolate will be served to Middle School students, and they will learn cultural facts about St. Nicolas and play a Kahoot trivia game.
IMPORTANT: If your child CANNOT have candies (Starbursts, Skittles, candy canes), please email your child's homeroom teacher as soon as possible. Stickers will be the alternative St. Nicolas treat.  Merci beaucoup to all the parents who made a donation, volunteered and supported this event!

World Language Team,

Thank You, PTO!

As the World Language team, we are so grateful that we had the chance to attend the 2018 ACTFL World Language conference in New Orleans before Thanksgiving Break. We had the opportunity to learn about the latest research and teaching techniques on language acquisition. Our deepest thanks to PTO for supporting our growth!

Merci beaucoup, Muchas gracias, XieXie

New Start & End Times for Full Day K-4th Graders

Beginning  Monday, January 7, 2019, Full Day K-4th grade students will begin school at  8:00am (the same time as middle school students) instead of 8:15am and will dismiss at  3:20pm instead of 3:15pm. THERE IS NO CHANGE for Preschool, Half Day K or 5th-8th grade students.

Help Fight Childhood Cancer

World Compass Academy is passionate about supporting and encouraging students to prevail when times get tough.

We have a great example of that in one of our very own students, Tessa Hancock. She is a 7th grader at our great school, and she and her family are part of the community fighting childhood cancer. Her little brother was diagnosed with cancer in August. He has been in and out of the hospital receiving treatments for the past few months. His journey with this has not  only altered his life, but it has had an impact on his family as well. His older sister, Tessa, has chosen to do something positive to help other families who are in situations similar to theirs. She is organizing a fundraiser for families fighting childhood cancer. This fundraiser will provide gifts during Christmas time to families in need.

Preschool Updates

New Playground. We are so excited about the addition of our new Preschool playground. Since the equipment is sized specifically for Preschool and Kindergarten students, please help us keep the playground in good condition by not allowing older students to play on it. We appreciate your cooperation!

Please dress modestly.

Reloadable Grocery Cards. Great news! If you are a Safeway shopper, shopping cards are now available. They work just like the King Soopers cards. For each dollar spent, the school gets a rebate. Reach out to Lisa Beerbower for details and to get either card. You can find Lisa over at our PTO Facebook Page

Box Tops. Please continue to cut them out and stash them! We will have another collection campaign this spring.

New Adult Spirit Shirts . They are here! As you might know, kids' spirit wear shirt sales have been  turned over to the middle school kids, but we know you parents want your swag as well. We listened, we designed, and we're happy to share that the new, awesome shirts are available for purchase (see photo). They are charcoal gray with a left chest logo. They come in both a male and female version for a more flattering fit for all.

WCA Social Media

Please "like" our Facebook page and follow us on Instagram @wcacougars. Social media is one of the top ways we can increase our visibility, which contributes to growing our enrollment. Help us spread the word by liking our pages and sharing and commenting on posts. We have several consistent highlights each week, including "Why WCA" Wednesday and Thursday Storytime. Our "Why WCA" features come from our very own families, and we invite you to share your story with us. Go HERE for more information.

Our Thursday Storytime features a different WCA Teacher/Staff member reading a book. This is a fun way to set us apart as a language immersion school and simply to offer something fun and unique for our families to tune into each week. A new Storytime video is posted each Thursday at 7:30pm MT on our Facebook Page . Thank you for your support of WCA!
