September Newsletter

President's Message

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Welcome back to CCDA 2020-2021. In the midst of these difficult times, I hope that this message finds you and your loved ones safe and well. Although I am thankful that many of us have remained safe and healthy, it is difficult to ignore the toll that COVID-19 has taken on our lives.

Not in a million years would anyone of us imagine a scenario involving a global pandemic. Our human kind is incredible in a sense where we can adapt and change quickly. Wearing a face mask and social distancing is the new normal. That being said, there are many changes going
forward with our monthly meetings. The board and I have implemented new protocols to be followed at monthly meetings. These changes are for the safety and well being of our members and guests because you are important to us.
1. All members must wear face masks at meetings.
2. Please check in with Dr. Singer or Dr. Pfent one at a time, please do not
congregate. Clean pens and hand sanitizer will be available.
3. Temperatures will be taken.
4. You will be handed a drink ticket.
5. Please get a drink and take a seat at a table.
6. There will be tables consisting of 4 seats, tables with 2 seats, and perimeter
seating.
7. Please wear your face mask during the entire lecture, except while eating.

Per the CDC recommendation, we will limit our meeting to 50 members. We have eliminated cocktail hour and vendors to prevent group gathering for the time being. The September meeting will be our last meeting at The Naples Beach Club. Although we have been there for so many years with so many memories, it is time for a new adventure. Starting in October we will be meeting at The Naples Hilton.

I am so grateful for our executive council. Each and every one of our council members have worked so hard in putting these meetings together. Dr. Patty Primero is our President- Elect and Treasurer this year. She has done an amazing job managing our finances and keeping our association strong and healthy. Thank you Dr. Juan Rodriguez and Dr. Alexis Diaczynsky for working tirelessly with our speakers, lectures, and newsletter. This is not an easy job and we appreciate you. We would also like to announce our nomination of Dr. Chelsea Benza to the position of Assistant Program Chairman. Our election and vote will happen during the September meeting. I want to thank Dr. Sean Carr for your commitment, great leadership and continued support. You have done so much for the CCDA during the past 5 years and it has been a pleasure working with you and learning from you. Last but not least, our legendary Dr. Mark Singer, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Your guidance and support is much appreciated.

I miss you all, especially during these difficult times. We have not seen each other in months. Our association is close-knit and strong; we must help one another get through this together. I am grateful to be part of CCDA and to have you as my friends and colleagues.

Special Alert from the Florida Dental Association
Political Action Committee

The Florida Dental Association Political Action Committee (FDAPAC) is working to identify and support legislators and candidates who are friends of organized dentistry during this 2020 election cycle. The FDA is able to support dental-friendly candidates because of the funding that comes from members who join the FDAPAC Century Club. The $150 membership is a small investment in political advocacy that allows dentistry to have a strong voice in the legislative process. The FDAPAC Century Club has made it possible for dentistry to actively participate in the campaign process that has elected House and Senate leaders who have helped move the FDA’s legislative agenda forward.

For a list of current FDAPAC Century Club members by component, please click here. If you wish to become a Century Club member, click here. The component with the most new sign-ups at the end of the period will receive a special recognition from the FDA.

Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate.

Many children with clefts around the world live in isolation, but more importantly, have difficulty eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking. Cleft repair surgery is safe, and the transformation is immediate. Our sustainable model provides training, funding, and resources to empower local medical professionals in 90+ countries to provide 100%-free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care in their own communities.

Donate Now and Change a Child's Life Forever

1 in 700 babies are born with a cleft lip and/or palate globally. While surgery can take as little as 45 minutes and costs as little as $250.00, it is out of reach for many around the world.

Help provide a forever smile and second chance at life to a child living with an untreated cleft. Donate now to transform a child's life!
