How Sounds Going Into Our Ears Become Words Going Through Our Brains

You're walking along a busy city street. All around you are the sounds of subway trains, traffic, and music coming from storefronts. Free Printable Puzzles Inspired by Brown Bear, Brown Bear
[Source:  No Time for Flashcards]

Every year Brown Bear, Brown Bear is one of my students' favorite books. I get a different group of 2 and 3-year-olds every year but without fail this book is a favorite. Many of my students come to me familiar with this book and finding it in their classroom and being read at circle time is a great bridge between school and home. I make different materials to go with the book throughout the year, and I just made some three-piece puzzles for my class today and thought I'd offer them as a free download for you. I didn't print all the animals out, that would have been way too much for my group. Instead, I chose a few of the animals, printed and laminated.

And so it seems we've arrived at that time of year when the holidays just all sort of sneak up on us. Before you know it, it's the new year and you're writing the wrong date on everything. But for now, it might just be the right time to think about the challenges children with special needs will be facing when up against those holiday expectations.

Behavior Corner: What Do I Do When They Won't Give Back the Reinforcer?
[Source: Autism Classroom Resources]

Last week I talked about reinforcement and common mistakes we make using it.  One of the most frequent questions I get asked is "What do I do when he won't give back the reinforcer?" This is also one of the most common reasons I see lots of teachers stop using reinforcement.

SLP Corner: Building an AAC Book Lending Library
[Source:  Speech Room News]

This fall, I started created some Core Adapted Books for my AAC users. It inspired me to build an AAC Book Lending Library for my school.  I have always used books to target core vocabulary but this fall I started adding sentence strips right into the books. After I did the first one, I realized I needed to make multiple copies so that I could send them home with the students and get them into the classroom libraries as well.
