Thanksgiving Day Weekend
Ferry Schedule

BHI Transportation will be running additional ferries during the Thanksgiving Day weekend.

Village of BHI Extends Deadline for Debris Pick Up

Mayor Andy Sayre sent out an update this week announcing that the deadline to have debris placed beside the road and ready for pick up is in early December.

National Flood Insurance Program Set to Expire November 30th

Unless Congress takes action next week, the National Flood Insurance Program is set to expire next Friday, November 30th at midnight. Lawmakers introduced legislation last week to extend it another 6 months but it remains unclear which route Congress will go.

Below is contact information for North Carolina legislators for property owners who wish to contact their legislators, share their experiences with Hurricane Florence and encourage they extend or reform the NFIP.

2019 Smith Island Social Canceled

Because of the significant damage to the BHI Club by Hurricane Florence, the January 2019 Smith Island Social has been canceled. Unfortunately, there is no alternative location to host the hundreds of property owners and community members who have attended this event since the mid-seventies. 
American Flag Disposal Available

Don't forget that BHA collects American Flags that have been damaged and staff takes them to the mainland for proper disposal. Drop flags off between 9am - 4pm, Monday through Friday.

Community Litter Sweep
Sunday, Nov. 25th; 11am-1pm
BHA's Association Center
(note the new location)

Please join us and volunteer to pick up litter on BHI. Gloves, grabbers and litter bags provided. Participants will be treated to water, donuts and other treats. Every participant receives a reusable shopping bag. Prizes for the oldest and youngest participants, and most unusual litter found! School community service credit for kids!

HGTV Show Features BHI

During the Island's more pleasant summer months, HGTV filmed segments for two episodes of the channel's show Island Life. Those issues are scheduled to run in early December.

New Service Time at Village Chapel Begins Dec. 2nd

Christmas Eve Services
Village Chapel
