MATH MARATHON
The Math Marathon has finished!  Congratulations to the second grade for completing the most problems, over 81,000 problems.  Third grade and kindergarten round out the top three.  The top three classes were 2 B (Mrs. Barrette), 2P (Mrs. Prieto) and 2C (Mrs. Crettol).  Overall, Riverside students completed over 241,000 problems.  Congratulations to all!
BASH THE TRASH SCIENCE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
On Tuesday, November 20th, Bash the Trash performed for the second grade class, using musical instruments made out of recycled materials to teach about sound and the environment. The instruments included a Styrofoam & rubber band bass, a plastic straw that was repeatedly shortened with scissors while it was played, and a conch shell with a cardboard cone amplifier. The performance demonstrated the science behind vibrations, frequency, and sound waves and how different vibrating materials create the four families of instruments. After the performance, the second graders learned how to build their own instruments from recycled and reused materials.

This program was made possible through your generous donations to the PTA.  Thank you!
ALLERGY AWARENESS ASSEMBLIES

Kyle delivered two age appropriate, interactive assemblies for grades K-2 and 3-5. Ask your kids what they learned! Kyle has performed for over 750 schools across North America. You can borrow his DVD from the Riverside Media Center or find out more at his website  https://www.kyledine.com

NOTE FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
In the Greenwich School District, the nurse does not screen whole classes of students for suspected contagious conditions (such as lice, coxsackie, or chickenpox).

Should a student have symptoms of any illness or condition that warrants further assessment, the student is then sent to the nurse for further evaluation.
In the event a contagious condition is either suspected or confirmed, the parent is called with instructions and recommendations for treatment, as well as referrals when deemed necessary.  Health alerts are then sent to the student's class with instructions for what to look for at home.

Mary Keller, the district nursing supervisor, will present an information session for parents on "lice in schools" in the very near future, we will share the date as soon as it is arranged.
YOUR CHILD'S DIGITAL LIFE
Mrs. Browning will continue leading her series of sessions for parents about digital citizenship, research tools, and the key apps used in school in the new year.  Please mark your calendars:
