Dear Friends:

Putting on a uniform puts things into perspective.

When I put this green uniform on and meet up with my fellow teammates we all become one. Even though the political situation in Israel is unstable and unfriendly, together in the army we are one. Our job is to keep Israel safe from those who want to do her/ him wrong.

Two nights ago, before heading out on a complicated mission, I became very nervous. Many terrible things ran through my head and it was difficult to stay focused. I decided to open up a book on the holy Aish Kodesh the Rabbi of Piesenze.

Writing from the Warsaw ghetto the Aish Kodesh paints a horrific picture of our people’s suffering.

I begin to remember how lucky I am. Although, the reality of the situation may be sad and we should always strive for peace with our neighbors, I feel blessed that I am able to defend our people and country from anti-Semitism and terrorism. We have a strong hand and we are a very united people when we are confronted with those who want to do us harm.

I pray that our people can be as united in peace as we are when faced with danger and that my child will be able to live in an Israel that has no need for an army.

Shabbat Shalom ,

Sergeant Hanan
