Prayers for Sister Kathleen

Please keep Sister Kathleen in your thoughts and prayers. Her brother, Father Jerry Knueven, passed away suddenly last week. 

Funeral services will be held at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, 2535 Collingwood Boulevard, Toledo: The Reception of the Body at the Cathedral will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018, with visitation continuing until 7:00 p.m. Evening Prayer will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at the Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018. There will be visitation Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the Mass at 11:00 a.m.

Any school and parish families wishing to attend are welcome.

Preschool Christmas Movie Night

Kindergarten Class Mass

Sunday, December 2, 9am Mass

Families with Kindergarten students are invited to participate in the Kindergarten Class Mass on Sunday, December 2 at the 9:00am Mass. Join other families for Mass and a brief reception in the Sacred Heart Center to strengthen and establish friendships.  Please click  here  to RSVP for Mass and the reception. Winter Enrichment 2019  

Looking for a gift for your student this Christmas? Why not give them a fun experience gift with a winter enrichment class! Choose from dance, soccer, fitness, animal detectives, baton twirling and much more! Per request, you will receive a certificate that you can present to your child to represent the great opportunity they will soon get to experience!

Kroger Community Rewards

Time to print your Rewards Balance

It is time to print your Kroger Community Rewards balance.  Please send the print-out to the Saint Rose School office to the attention of Alison Ray-Kobler.  Alternatively, you can send a print-out of your earnings to Alison ataliqwreigh@gmail.com .  To ensure that we have the most up to date information on file, please also write the name of the St. Rose child/family who should receive the credit for your earnings (if applicable).  The only way we are able to assign the Kroger Community Rewards to a specific student account is by having the participants print and submit their Kroger Community Rewards donation amount. 

 

Congratulations

Many Blessings to Clare Wellstein, Saint Rose 5th grader, on her Baptism this past Sunday.  Clare had a beautiful baptism, surrounded by friends and family! Clare's parents are thankful for everyone at Saint Rose who inspired her to make this choice. She truly feels God's love through her teachers and friends at school.

Student Art Work

Congratulations to the students who created Christmas artwork for the Knights of Columbus "Keep Christ in Christmas" campaign. These pieces will be used for the Christmas cards sent to grandparents. 

Homework and Reading Help Available 

for Extended Day

Four eighth grade boys are volunteering to help students with homework and reading during Extended Day.  

Available times include:

Mondays,  7:45 - 8:45, outside Miss Germann's Room

Tuesdays - Thursdays,  3:30 - 4:30, Office Conference Room

This program begins the week of  November 25 and continues until  Dec. 20.

Family Service Event on December 2

During Advent and Christmas, we remember that the Holy Family was forced to leave its homeland.  They became refugees in a foreign land and depended on the kindness of others.   During December we will focus on the work of mercy, "Welcome the Stranger."

Global Connections in Bowling Green is an organization that welcomes people from other nations and fosters cultural exchanges and opportunities to Welcome the Stranger.   Many of the participants are international students or faculty members and families studying at the university.

On  Sunday, December 2,  Saint Rose families will host an Advent Event for members of Global Connections.   Together, our school families and members of Global Connections will enjoy crafts, activities, and food designed to promote cultural exchange and friendship and help to share our customs.

Please consider participating in this event on  Sunday, Dec. 2 from 1:30-3:30 pm in Bowling Green.  More details will be sent to those who register regarding location and activities.

Guidance Lesson Recap: Sense of Humor

 

This month's lesson focused on the Lifeskill of Sense of Humor in knowing when to be funny without hurting others' feelings. We discussed many situations can be tough and having a sense of humor is a great way to push through these situations.

 

Grade K & 1: We read the book There Once was a Cowpoke Who Swallowed an Ant by Hellen Ketteman. The silly story was about a cowboy who struggled with many different animals and having many silly ways to solve the problem of getting rid of the ant. As a class, we discussed w hat sense of humor means and how to be silly in appropriate ways with friends.

 

Grade 2: We read the story The Jester Has Lost His Jingle by David Saltzman. The story was about a jester who lost his job in the kingdom and went out to find laughter and cheer again in the world. As a class, we talked about many ways we can use sense of humor to get through tough situations and how to appropriately be funny at school and at home.

 

Grade 3- We read the book Old MacDonald had a Dragon by Ken Baker. This silly story was about a dragon that gobbled up many of the animals on the farm and how sense of humor used to resolve the problem. As a class, we talked about positive ways to show a sense of humor in our daily lives with friends and family.

Grades 4 & 5- The classes continued to pilot the Be Kind Program in their lessons in the classroom. The kids seem to be learning many great things about being kind and a good friend with the curriculum.

 

Grades 6-8. As a class, we discussed many ways sense of humor is important in our daily lives. We discussed how many situations do not go as planned, and it is important to incorporate sense of humor as a way to get through various situations. Students watched a video that taught about proper table manners and etiquette and how to use them in every day life. The video also emphasized what not to do and how sense of humor can be present in every day situations, even at the dinner table. Students then had the opportunity to practice using proper table manners and give advice to those who were not following proper protocol. It was quite comical!

The CYO Parish Athletic Director (AD) is an adult leader of the entire parish athletic program. This person should be organized, respected in the community, able to communicate effectively, mediate disputes and someone who cares about the well-being of the youth above all else. The AD ensures that the athletic programs are a part of the faith building efforts of the parish, are part of a comprehensive ministry to youth, and are within the programmatic guidelines of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). Letters From Haiti
