Letter from the President
I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of all the many events we will be sponsoring in the upcoming year. All of our activities are open to the general public because our mission is to promote the glass arts.
The AGASC had an active 2018.
We sponsored all the following tours:
* Escondido, "Queen Califia's Magical Circle" and the "Mosaic Invitational" at the Center for the Arts, Escondido
* Palm Springs Museum, "No Glass Ceiling! Women Working in Glass"
* Ilan Lael (James Hubbell home and art studios) in Santa Ysabel
* Palm Springs Museum for "The Narratives in Glass Exhibition"
* Ojia, three outstanding glass artists' studio tours
We also can add to our events our very successful annual members Gallery 21 exhibition and the Guild's two patio sales held in May and October. Finally we have our upcoming Holiday Party, Dec 15th.
Our first general meeting for next year will be held on Sunday, January 13th at Pat Warren's Studio, 3-5pm. It is an important meeting where we make up our committees that decide the next year's activities. So, be sure and make this meeting, if at all possible.
Have a Happy New Year,
Jack Wade

AGASC 37th Annual Members' Exhibition
and Glass Boutique
by Jon Simpson
The quality of the art glass was outstanding again this year, which made for an excellent show. Sales of the artwork and in the Glass Boutique were brisk allowing for a small profit to be made from the exhibition for the education fund. This year we had three weeks to get the show ready, hold the exhibition and take it down, which was a longer time allotment.
We would like to welcome Oceanside Glass & Tile as a sponsor of the show. They continue the support that Uroboros Glass gave us for many years. We would also like to thank Coatings by Sandberg, Inc. for their continued support of our exhibition. Also, the following companies donated glass, tools, supplies and gift certificates for awards in the show: Bullseye Glass, His Glass Works, Aanraku Glass Studios, Glass Accessories International (Toyo), Rayzist Photomask, Pacific Art Glass, Glass Orchid, Youghiogheny Glass, Rio Grande, Red Hot Metals, Austin Thin Films, Inland Craft Products and Diamond Tech Crafts.
The judges for the show were Deanne Sabeck - a residential and commercial glass artist, Buzz Blodgett - a blown glass artist and Beth Marino - Museum Exhibition Manager of California Center for the Arts, Escondido. A complete list and photos of winning pieces is on our website at
http://www.agasc.org/annual-show.html. Additional photos are at
It takes an awful lot to put on the exhibition and Gayle Tunney Richardson, Show Chair and I would like to thank all of the volunteers, participants and raffle donors. We would particularly like to thank Rosemary and Pat Stark for coordinating the raffle. Devora Safran coordinated the caterer (Harry Sevel) who prepared exceptional food for the reception. Jackie Murphy provided and implemented the software to handle and report sales for the show and boutique. Cathy Coverley coordinated the hanging of the exhibition and Susan Hirsch coordinated the glass boutique. And I also want to thank the AGASC members, Bob Stinton, Bill Matulich, Bob Hirsch and Suzanne Balestri who volunteered their time and energy for the exhibition, even though they did not participate in the show or boutique.

Fallbrook Center for the Arts Galaxy of Glass 2018
By Susan Hirsch
The Fallbrook show is always a highlight for our members with the spacious gallery and beautiful lighting. This year Nic McGuire's huge "Galaxy" piece was perfect for the show postcard. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful annual Glass show right here in Southern California.

Highlights of the Ojai Artist Tour
by Ann Mitchell
What a lovely Ojai trip Marti Blaire had in store for us. Starting out we meet Susan Stinsmuehlen-Amend in Ventura as she showed us her newly installed glass partition and windows for the chapel within a soon to open hospital. From there we went up the hill to Ojai, meeting again at a Jewish
synagogue viewing more of Susans work. Just in time for sunset we moved on to the local Topa Mountain winery, sipping away to the sunset looking upon the pink Topa mountains. Next morning we started the day with Stephen Edwards home and studio. He gave us a wonderful background of his career with a storytellers flair, ending with a guitar playing song! After lunch, on to Susan's home to view her studio, as well as her son and husband!! What a creative family. Susan filled us in even more on how she came up with her imagery, along with any detail that was asked on how she made her glass panels. As we parted her home/studio she encouraged us to stop by her mural in Oxnard. For our last day in Ojai, Marti landed us at Brian Berman's home and studio. Wow, the amount of sharing he did was over the top. From the lovely and symbolic art glass pieces, his use of a 3D printer and trips to use the experts of large glass casting in the old Czechoslovakia, he explained the flow of his career in art glass. I'm sure to relive this whole Ojai experience for a long time, forever grateful
