November 29, 2018
Dear Parents,

We have had a fantastic week back from Thanksgiving break. I hope that you will be able to join us this weekend at the Fine Arts Festival.  This is a fantastic event for all ages. All of our students will have one piece of their art displayed, and then our 3rd and 4th grade choir will perform at 10:30.  There will be fun arts and crafts, yummy food, and other shows for everyone to enjoy. This is definitely one of my favorite events that showcases all of our students.  For more specific information, please read the details below. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at anytime.

All My Best,

Donations are needed for the silent and online auctions. The online auction will be different this year. A few of the big items will be in the silent auction at the event, but most of the items will be online, so that everyone will have the opportunity to bid. What can you donate?  Here are some ideas:

-Perhaps you have a vacation home that you could share for a week,
-Create a fun experience - in the past we have had crawfish boils, private dinners with live entertainment, fishing excursions, hunting excursions, etc.
-A business service,
-Restaurant gift cards (over $25 please)

You may click here for the donation form. Donation form. For questions, please contact Kelli Litchenburg or Vicki Deerman.

Benefitting the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools

LES News

Now that November has come to an end, we have concluded our focus on "Gratitude." Students have learned that gratitude is about much more than just saying, "thank you." It encompasses the broader idea of appreciating and being satisfied with what you have and helping and serving others. Our students have such generous hearts and we're always amazed at how they actively participate in efforts to help others. This year we raised over $1,000 for ACO through their contributions to the Caring Coins drive for ACO. Thank you for supporting your child in practicing gratitude by sharing the "Lovejoy love" with those who are in need.

We are beginning a new Leopard Life Skill for the month of December. "Curiosity" will be our next focus, and students will learn that it means "a strong desire to explore and learn new things by asking questions and searching for information." We want our students to learn that there is wisdom in wonder, so we will be encouraging them to use their imaginations and natural curiosities to learn more about our world and the things around us. Our hope is that by asking questions and being curious, students will realize we can learn more, become more enlightened, and begin to notice things that are interesting, mysterious, and exciting. This goes right along with our Leopard Life Skill of having a growth mindset by embracing opportunities to learn and grow. There is a great article about "10 Tips to Help Develop Your Child's Curiosity," and you can find it at: http://www.howtolearn.com/2013/05/10-tips-to-help-develop-your-childs-curiosity/ . It is a short article with some practical ideas for fostering "wonder" in your child.

You may also find more information about the nine character strengths, skills, and mindsets on which our Leopard Life Skills are based at www.characterlab.org . Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions. Thank you for helping us develop curious minds in our little leopards!

NEW! Upcoming Christmas Parties
We will have our class parties on Wednesday, December 19th.  Our day will be busy as we kick off the morning with our Leopard Live/Sing Along at 8:05 am. From, 10:00 am to 10:45 am, our Kindergarten will celebrate by having their Christmas party. Grades 1,2,3, and 4 will have their parties from 10:45 am to 11:30 am.  For those attending Leopard Live or the class party, we ask that the adults check in through the front office. We will be sending out a fast pass sign up in the coming weeks to facilitate the check in process.  We will be asking any parents who are in attendance to either leave at 11:45 or wait until 12:15. This is to help us accommodate the traffic in the parking lot and to allow our buses to stay on schedule. Thank you in advance for helping us ensure the safety of all students and parents with this schedule.  Student will be released at 12:00 pm that day!

4th Grade Recorders
4th grade music students at Lovejoy will learn to play the recorder. In order to ensure that each student gets a quality instrument and to provide a level of convenience to our busy families, we will be collecting $3.00 per student and ordering the instruments from our music supplier. You can pay cash or check to Lovejoy Elementary.   If you already own a recorder, it is not necessary to purchase one through the school . However, I would like to caution you against purchasing an instrument from a discount retailer. These instruments are generally of inferior quality and play out of tune. If cost is a concern, please contact Mrs. Hebert [email protected] and we will work with you to get a quality instrument for your child.
