We are already at the completion of the third week of summer break and I hope this update finds you enjoying a wonderful summer so far with friends and family. We intend to run a few summer issues of The Bear Pride to keep our school community up to speed with respect to important dates and events. Please also check our website and social media pages for other news.

I hope all of our Bears will be doing some reading for pleasure this summer. As in the past, all grades have summer reading assignments and we encourage our Bears to get started this month to get the most out of the experience. If you look closely at any of the expectations by grade level, you will see that the faculty have selected some excellent book titles with thought provoking follow-up assignments. Any of these can be an enjoyable learning experience if not started at the last minute.

Please note that we are now operating on a summer calendar for the balance of June and all of July:
  • Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Closed
Students can always reach out to our guidance counselors this summer, but please remember that staff vacations often occur over the summer and counselors do work off a schedule. Please click here for their contact information.

Enjoy the rest of the week and if you are traveling out of town on the roadways this summer, please drive carefully and remember to buckle up!

In Bear Pride,

Warren Buffett, lifetime avid reader and #3 USA in net worth at $82.5 billion.
Warren Buffett, 88, is now old enough to be of a great grandfather's age to some of our Bears! However, he is extremely active today and is currently worth $82.5 billion making him the 3rd wealthiest person in America. A self-made man, reading is and has always been a big part of his life. This is what he says about the importance of reading and its impact on his financial success over the years . . .

"Never stop learning. It's easy to quit learning once you graduate from high school or college and get busy at work. But reading, learning and staying current on things pays dividends over time. I spend most of my work day now reading (newspapers, books, magazines, annual reports, balance sheets) and thinking. I read about 500 pages every day. That's how knowledge builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it."

* Compound interest is when you earn money, or interest, on the interest you've already made on an initial investment.

Summer Art Event

Our regular readers know that during this past school year we have featured one of our amazing art teachers, Mr. Jesus Marin, and his students' artwork. Some of Mr. Marin's own art is currently on display at this art exhibition. It is a truly a great opportunity for all to attend, not just Cypress Creek families!

Summer Math Practice via Khan Academy

The OCPS Curriculum and Digital Learning department has partnered with Khan Academy to create resources for students to use in preparation for select secondary mathematics courses they will take in the 2019-2020 school year. This is not a requirement for students but is highly recommended to support student success in the next course by reinforcing content they might have not encountered for over a year.

Students must log in to Khan Academy through OCPS LaunchPad first before using the links to access the exercises.

* Please click here for the appropriate link by math class course that the student will be taking in 2019-2020.

Bear Athletics

Athletics Paperwork
The Sports Packet for 2019-20 seasons will be available from the front office or the Athletic Training office in the gym 03-105J. You may wish to print this document from home and take it to your private physician: http://bit.ly/bearpaperwork

* Every student-athlete will need to complete new paperwork for the academic 2019-20 school year.

Paperwork can be turned into the main office throughout the summer and the staff will place it into Coach Panas-Schuster's mailbox. Processing takes place throughout the summer. Recheck for necessary information and proper signatures in pen as the student-athlete will not be allowed to participate in any interscholastic activities until the documentation is completed correctly.

Fall sports start dates begin JULY 29th

Questions regarding open gym opportunities and tryout information can be obtained by contacting the head coach for the sport. Or using the REMIND app, you can join the sport group and receive information.  https://tinyurl.com/2019-20-remind

NEW for 2019-2020 - Skyward

Food For Thought

CCHS has a rich history of having so many talented and creative students: theatre, marching band, orchestra, chorus, art, robotics, and so many more. Our Bears invest thousands of hours every school year studying, practicing and performing. Here are the daily routines of some other very famous creative people from history!

Bears, please remember to practice safety when using any fireworks this July 4th!

This Week's Motivational Moment!

"Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream of really do come true."

We have put together a very short, but powerful video which captures some of the spirit from this past school year. Set to music, it is quite inspiring and worth a look!

Thank you again for an amazing 2018-2019! Wishing all of our Bears and their families a safe and happy summer break.
