Lancer Holiday Season
This weekend kicks off a festive month of events and concerts!
Lake Park will host a number of festive events open to the community beginning with the 37th Annual Holiday Craft Fair on
Saturday, December 1
. Featuring new hours, the holiday craft show will run from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the West Campus field house. Approximately 75 crafters will offer handcrafted gift items for sale. Admission to the fair is $2.00 for adults and free for senior citizens and children.
The holiday events schedule continues when the Lake Park Band and Choir Programs present the annual "Holiday Festival of Music" program on
Tuesday, December 4
in the West Campus auditorium. In an effort to ensure all families and community members have an opportunity to attend, a second show has been added for that same evening! Concert times are 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with doors opening a half hour before show time.
Please note that limited tickets remain for the 7:30 p.m. show!
Ticket prices are $3 for adults, $2 students (other high schools and college), and free for senior citizens, Lake Park students and children under 13. Seating is first-come, first-served.

when the jazz band hosts a brief winter concert in the West Campus auditorium. Now in its third year, this big band jazz band show is open to all and free of charge.

. Theatre-goers will laugh, cry and leave filled with a sense of wonder and awe that only the northern lights could bring.

Post-Graduation Planning
Counseling department program provides junior students, families with helpful resources.
Junior students and families are invited to attend a presentation from
Mr. Joe Ziemba, Lake Park's College and Career Counselor, who will discuss post-graduation planning on
Tuesday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the West Campus auditorium.
A general focus of the presentation will be addressing the question: "What can junior students do during this year to prepare for after graduation?"
Accordingly, some topics that will be discussed include:
important reminders specific to junior students and families; resources to begin exploring career and college opportunities; tips for preparing for the college application process; details for prospective college student athletes, and more. After this event, a copy of the presentation will be accessible on the counseling website.

Driver Education Program
Students to complete permit applications before second semester.
Lake Park High School invites families to attend the Second Semester Driver Education Program Night for all parents and students who are currently scheduled for second semester driver education.
The meeting is scheduled for next
Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m.
in the East Campus Dice Auditorium. Information will be shared about the Graduated Licensing Law and the 50-hour requirement. Students will receive a Rules of the Road booklet and have time to fill out their permit applications in order to obtain their permit before the semester begins. Students are requested to bring their Chromebooks to complete the permit application online, if they have not done so already.

SAT Test Prep Course Deadline Nears
Register by Friday, December 7 for sessions beginning in January 2019.
In preparation for the SAT test dates available next spring for juniors, Lake Park High School will offer a course beginning in January 2019 to develop study skills to improve SAT scores. In addition to English, reading and mathematics preparation, the course emphasizes test-taking strategies and techniques. Students will gain insights to SAT testing situations, practice and remediation, and explanations to SAT questions and answer choices.
The Illinois State Board of Education is committed to assessing students through the SAT. More importantly for our students, the SAT is universally accepted as a college entrance exam for universities nationwide. Lake Park's SAT prep course is designed to help students improve the skills needed to raise their SAT scores.
Although the College Board provides preparatory materials online, this course is beneficial to students because it provides an authentic and interactive learning experience with detailed class instruction, textbooks and supplemental materials, and an intensive review session prior to the administration of the SAT at Lake Park on

First Semester Final Exams
Prepare for the 2-day exam schedule on December 20 and 21.
During these exam days, all Lake Park students will have access to meal service, tutoring, and bus transportation that is provided on a typical school day. Buses will depart approximately 10 minutes after the end of the day and late buses will still run as usual departing at
4:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. from East Campus and 3:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. from West Campus
.
Students can request an alternate test day if one of their exam days is excessively busy by speaking with their teacher to make any necessary arrangements. If a student misses an exam due to an excused absence, the exam may be taken during the make-up period.
At East Campus, students will be required to attend their study hall and are expected to arrive on time at the start of each day and complete the full school day. This will allow them to take advantage of the school's tutorial services and to prepare for their upcoming final exam periods. The only exception to this is 8th period study hall on Day 2 when there are no additional exams for which to prepare.
At West Campus, students are encouraged, but not required, to attend lunch or study hall. Students should exit the campus if they are not attending their study hall and/or lunch periods, and then resume their schedule upon returning to campus. Furthermore, students may arrive late if their first class of the day is a study hall and/or leave early if the day ends with lunch or study hall. Students who remain on campus must follow their schedule.

Planning Ahead: Advanced Placement and Elective Options
Sophomores and juniors invited to explore 2019-20 course options.
Current sophomores and juniors, along with parents or guardians, are cordially invited to attend Lake Park's Elective and Advanced Placement (AP) Information Night on
Thursday, January 10, 2019
. This program provides an opportunity for families to hear about the many elective and AP courses offered at West Campus.
Families will learn how students benefit from AP courses, which are considered excellent indicators of college readiness. Likewise, attendees will be able to explore the many elective course options that reflect the varied interests of our students.
The program begins in the auditorium at 7:00 p.m. with a general overview about the evening. After that brief presentation, participants will attend an open house in the cafeteria to visit with department representatives and AP teachers. The open house provides families with an opportunity to speak directly with teachers about the format and expectations of AP courses, while also giving students a chance to explore the many elective offerings at West Campus.
