Sara Cooner who won the "Outstanding Nonschool Based Leader" for the 2019 school year.
Sara provides individual behavioral services for 200 FCPS schools supporting general and special education students. She is widely recognized for her dedication to student success, empathy for parental concerns, and timeliness resolving staff and administrator needs. Sara’s work with Organization for Autism Research and Children’s National Health System shaped a nationally recognized intervention curriculum for students on the autism spectrum.

Madison Romano who was recognized by the Fairfax County Public Schools last week as the "Outstanding New Teacher" at Fairfax Villa Elementary School. Her award was won based on nominations from peers and parents of students.

Backpacks needed for WFCM - Again this summer, we have been asked to collect 25 large, new backpacks for Western Fairfax Christian Ministries. Many students are not financially able to buy school backpacks so churches and organizations around the area are asked to donate them. Students in need do not get a new backpack every year so they are encouraged to take care of them. Our backpacks will be going to Centreville High School. (We have been told that Costco puts the "High Sierra" backpacks on sale for $16 for 2 weeks in July.) Backpacks will be collected at the church and delivered to the school in mid-August.
Education for Ministry - Want to understand the bible a bit more deeply? Want to be involved in a small group? Want to discuss important issues in a Christian context? Then EfM is for you! We are currently looking for new members to join our current EfM group when we start up again in the fall. It's a four year program and we meet weekly for about 2 hours for 9 months. Sign up for a year at a time. The yearly cost is $375 and reading assignments are done each week. Interested? Let Carol know. You can also talk with one of our current EfM members - Walt Cooner, Durinda Smith, Bob Faithful, Val Tucker, Craig Staresinich, and Patricia McPherson.
Coffee Hour - Snacks will be provided by those with the last names starting with M - Z this Sunday.
Bricks - If you would like to have an engraved brick in thanksgiving or in memory of someone and put in our "Walkway of Saints", we are now taking orders. The bricks are $75 and the order forms are on the back table in the church and in the church office.

When completed, an estimated 500,000 LEGO® bricks will form a 1:40 scale replica of the Cathedral that’s more than 13 feet long, 8 feet tall and bigger than a minivan.
It will be the WORLD’S LARGEST Cathedral to be built from LEGO® bricks!
Every brick added helps build the LEGO® brick replica AND restore the real Cathedral! At $2 per brick, all proceeds will help fund the remaining $19 million in repairs still needed to fix damage from the 2011 earthquake.
In celebration of
St. John’s 169th birthday on July 14
, we are donating 169 Lego blocks to support the National Cathedral goal.
We need your hands to help place the blocks/bricks in the model.
On Saturday, July 20, at about 11:30 am, we will gather at the Cathedral model to place our bricks.
Bring your family and friends. Parking is available at the Cathedral, tours of the Cathedral are available (tickets are $12/adult, $8 students & seniors and can be purchased on-site or ahead of time on-line), you can even have tea and sandwiches on the grounds. If anyone is interested in carpooling from the church, let Carol know.

Rather than cutting out the law, God through Jesus Christ fulfills it, drawing all people to a new life through the law into grace.

The healing God provides can be severe, separating flesh and marrow, or opening gaping wounds among community members as a result of a person's healing.

Bridget of Sweden
(1303 – 1373) was a mystic, a saint who founded the Bridgettine Order of nuns & monks. She was also the mother of Saint Catherine of Vadstena and is considered one of six patron saints of Europe, along with Benedict of Nursia, Saints Cyril and Methodius, Catherine of Siena and Edith Stein. Bridget became known for her charitable works, particularly toward Östergötland's unwed mothers and their children. Following her husband’s death in 1341, Bridget became a member of the 3

Order of St. Francis (OSF) and devoted herself to a life of prayer, caring for the poor, and ministering to the infirm. During her early years in the OSF, she was inspired to establish a religious community which was to become the Order of the Most Holy Savior (aka the Brigittines). In 1350, a Jubilee Year, Bridget braved plague-stricken Europe to make a pilgrimage to Rome accompanied by her daughter, Catherine, and a small party of priests and disciples. Her twofold purpose was to obtain the Pope’s blessing for her Order and to pursue her self-imposed mission of elevating the moral tone of the age. Because her trip took place during the controversial Avignon Papacy, however, she had to wait two decades for the Papacy to confirm her Order in 1370. Meanwhile, Bridget had made herself universally beloved in Rome by her kindness and good works. Save for occasional pilgrimages, she remained in Rome until her death, campaigning for ecclesiastical reform. Pope Boniface IX canonized her in 1391 and the Council of Constance confirmed her sainthood in 1415. Some 19th-century writers argued she was a harbinger of the Protestant Reformation due to her criticism of popes, bishops and other clergy for not properly living their faith.

Reminder
Every Wednesday evening, we have a service of Holy Eucharist and healing at 6:00 PM. The service is about 30 minutes. It is a perfect alternative for those who cannot come to church on Sunday mornings, as well as a good spiritual boost in the middle of the week. Come join us!
Presence
God is not some unknowable, divine being, far removed from human life. Rather, God is known and experienced in the tiny moments of daily living. We see God in the wonder and beauty of creation, and the awe of worship; we touch God, in the person of Jesus, and the simple elements of bread, wine, water, and oil; we know God, who is closer to us even than our own breath.
