The Board of Supervisors regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Watch live on M AG-TV, Comcast channel 18 or Verizon channel 37. The township's composting program provides free mulch and compost to Moon Township residents. Bring your own containers and take as much as you need. Residents may drop off yard waste to be composted, including tree limbs, leaves, and plant matter. Tree limbs should not exceed six feet in length and four inches in diameter and should not be bundled or tied. No trash or other materials will be accepted. Residents may drop off yard waste or pick up mulch or compost at the Downes Fire Station, located at the intersection of Beaver Grade Road and Ewing Road, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Outside of these hours, please notify Public Works before arriving by calling 412.262.1700.

The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a community open house during National Fire Prevention Week. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend. Get an up-close look at the fire trucks and the fire station. Learn about fire safety and prevention, how to operate a fire extinguisher, and creating a fire escape plan. The event is at the public safety building located at 1000 Beaver Grade Road. This is a great opportunity to thank your volunteer firefighters or to learn more about becoming a volunteer.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.

 

The program addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue and provides an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

 

Moon Township residents may drop off unwanted and expired prescription drugs year round in the collection box located in the police station lobby at 1000 Beaver Grade Road.
