Another software company based in the San Francisco Bay Area has announced plans to move its headquarters to Reno, Nevada!
Bay Area's rfXcel bringing 'traceability' tech, HQ and 200 jobs to Reno. The software-as-a-service company's most popular technology is an application designed to effectively trace products as they move through the supply chain, from electronics to medicine and food. Glenn Abood, CEO says that rfXcel will hire software developers, finance experts, sales and marketing representatives with average wages that translate into about $47 per hour.
"More and more companies see the value of traceability and also governmental agencies such as the FDA ... that have now mandated it for pharmaceutical supply chains," Abood said.
Product tracking is just one aspect of the traceability concept. By adding smart connected devices and leveraging technology known as "the Internet of Things," traceability can be brought to a higher level, Abood said. Examples include putting a smart sensor on a pallet of products that need to be at a specific temperature. If the temperature starts climbing or dropping, the device can send a warning to notify the client about it. If temperatures reach unsafe levels before they can be prevented, the technology can also notify clients which pallets were affected so the items can be taken out of the distribution chain before they reach consumers. Add artificial intelligence into the mix and you have an even more robust system with added efficiency.

Its evolving concept is something that rfXcel will now work on in Reno. While the company will continue to maintain a facility in California, the Biggest Little City will serve as the site of its new headquarters.

Reno was actually the last place the company looked at after Phoenix, Seattle, Salt Lake and Boise. Abood says they were pleasantly surprised with what they saw in Reno, which made the city a good fit for the company. In addition to the proximity of the University of Nevada, Reno, as a source of talent, lower costs compared to the Bay Area and a strong logistics industry.

It's the kind of high-paying employer that Reno has been eager to recruit. Abood says rfXcel looks forward to calling Northern Nevada home. In addition to its proximity to the Bay Area, the region has a lot to offer workers who enjoy things such as the outdoors or less congestion. "One aspect (we're really looking forward to) is quality of life," Abood said. "Your employees are your assets and those assets walk out of that door every day. If you're not in a region that offers great quality of life, they're not gonna stay."

"The Reno City Council and I would like to extend a Biggest Little City welcome to Mr. Abood and the truly talented and innovative team at rfxcel," Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said. "Companies like rfxcel are creating the future right here in Reno. This is another win for our entire region as we continue to transform into a progressive and vibrant technology hub."

"We are excited that rfxcel has selected Reno for their new operations and corporate headquarters adding to the continued emergence of tech companies in our region," said Mike Kazmierski, President & CEO of EDAWN. "The company's reputation as one of the world's leaders in "track and trace" technology is also proof that well-established companies like rfxcel continue to embrace the opportunities found in Nevada to help them grow their business."
