"Power without love is reckless and abusive,
and love without power is sentimental and anemic.
Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice,
and justice at its best is power correcting everything
that stands against love."

~ Martin Luther King Jr.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Please join us for our next prayer shawl ministry meeting this coming Sunday, June 23, after the 9:30am service in the Ark Sunday school hallway at The Wave classroom. Knitters, prayers, and good listeners are all welcome to join us as we knit and pray together for hats and shawls providing soul comfort in times of need .
Lost & Found
The church's lost and found area has exploded to the point of overflowing. This image shows the many clothing items in the bin right inside the office door and to your left.  Please claim your items  by next Tuesday, June 25. ALL UNCLAIMED ITEMS WILL BE DONATED TO THE MIYFS THRIFT STORE.
Thank you.
Building Campaign Update
In the past week, work on the windows in the ARK hallway has started. The single pane windows along the playground will be replaced with up-to-date safety glass. The process has begun with the demolition of the window frames in Classroom 2-3. The demolition has allowed for precise measurements needed to order the correct windows. Expect the new windows in September.

Have you seen the white boxes on the walls? Those new white boxes are part of our new fire alarm system. This week new horn strobes, fire pulls, smoke detectors and a new fire panel were installed.

We are moving forward!

Finance Update
At this halfway point of the year, we wanted to give you an
update on MIPC's finances:

At this year's annual meeting, we shared the hard work on behalf of the staff and Session to keep the 2019 budget lean as we move toward sustainability. Even though the 2019 budget accounts for 7% less revenue than in 2018, we find the current level of giving almost 8% below our projections and 10% below last year's results for this first five months of the year. While we have taken steps to reduce spending accordingly, we would also appreciate everyone in a position to catch up on their giving commitments to please do so. We do not want this trend to continue or worsen because our day-to-day expenses do not take a summer holiday.

In addition, the MIPC Session has formed two task forces to review our current revenue sources and explore new ones. Our spending is almost entirely funded by member giving which is what makes your giving so critical to MIPC's mission and programs. As always, we appreciate your support both now and over the years.

Giving statements reflecting giving through June 30th will be mailed in the early part of July. Please review your statement for accuracy and catch up on your giving where possible. Thank you.

Update on Jackson Street Renovation
Our Gifts of the Heart offering this year went to YouthCare's Jackson Street shelter.  Here is their report:
"The staff at Jackson Street reports that things are moving along! So far the flooring has been replaced, they have received new sleeping mats, and  new lockers have been installed. They have ordered refrigerators and will be ordering laundry machines soon as well. After those arrive, they will be ordering and installing a hood vent to be able to safely cook food. Once everything is done, we will send pictures to share with you."

Upcoming Activities & Events

VBS Update

MIPC enjoys a long tradition of summer programming that engages children and families in Scripture and Christian community. Typically, our largest event is a Vacation Bible School in July. This year, we have several unusual factors that have compelled us to re-think VBS. Specifically, the scheduling of maintenance on our roof and HVAC systems, along with transitional staffing in Children's Ministry. After weighing all the issues, it was decided that MIPC will not host a VBS program this year. Below is a list of our fun family events over the summer: park playdates, Farmers Market meet-ups, Clarke Beach picnic and a baseball game. We look forward to seeing you over the summer, and are already planning a fabulous VBS for July, 2020.

Sanctuary Flowers Invitation
Each Sunday, congregation members have the opportunity to provide the beauty of flowers to the sanctuary. Many donate to honor loved ones who have passed, celebrate an anniversary or birthday or just because they love seeing flowers at church. Whatever the reason, your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated. Flowers can come from your garden or a flower shop, whatever works best for you. Because some are allergic to floral fragrances, it's best to plan flowers without fragrances. Thank you.

Please look at the calendar to see if there is a specific Sunday that you would like to provide flowers for worship in the sanctuary. Your beautiful donation will be recognized in the bulletin.

Please reach out to Brian at the front desk to coordinate your donation or if you have any questions, [email protected].
