Dear Friends,
It is hard to believe that Hanukkah begins this Sunday evening, Dec. 2nd!
The miracle of the oil burning for eight days after the Temple in Jerusalem was recaptured by the Maccabees does not have to be the only time light played such an important role in our people's history. We can be purveyors of much-needed light in this dark time by courageously and forthrightly working to bring goodness, compassion, peace and understanding into our world. This is my hope this year as we continue the tradition of our ancestors.
Looking forward to a delicious dinner and being an usher this Friday at our Brotherhood Service. All are welcome!
Also looking forward to our big temple Hanukkah Party on Dec. 9. There is so much happening that will be great for all ages. Please invite your friends.

Brotherhood Dinner & Service

Shabbat Service 7:30pm
Please join the Brotherhood at their annual Service on Friday evening, November 30th at 7:30pm. Brotherhood members will be conducting the traditional Friday evening Shabbat service as Rabbi Abramson gets a night off. In addition, there will be a free pre-service community dinner for the congregation beginning at 6:15pm, as well as the traditional Oneg after the conclusion of the service. This service is family friendly and will include music and a short discussion of the history of Judaism in Spain. We hope you will join us.
Please volunteer!
We have lots of opportunities to share your simchas or memories by volunteering for an Oneg. We also need one or two volunteers at each Shabbat service to be an usher so we can continue our Temple's tradition of being warm and welcoming. Please contact Shelley Rosenbaum Lipman (

Fundraising
Scrip (Gift Card) Bonus on Dec. 1st!
Scrip Bonus - One Day Only
Our gift card supplier, Great Lakes Scrip, will be offering a one-day bonus on December 1st which we'd like to take advantage of on the temple's behalf. Many popular cards will be available at a greater discount that day, thereby helping us raise a little more money for the temple.
Our plan is to order whatever we anticipate our members requesting in the upcoming weeks, making sure to fill the scrip bag with "the usual suspects," aka Dunks, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, Panera, LL Bean, 99 Restaurant, Whole Foods, Shaw's, Stop & Shop, etc. Although we try to anticipate what those requests will be, it would be a big help if you could let Fran know by November 30th what gift cards you want.
Great Lakes Scrip's turnaround time is quick - we should have everything by December 5th. If you plan on attending the temple's Hanukkah party on the 9th, we can give you your cards then. If not, it's easy to make other arrangements.

Raise Funds for the Temple While You Shop on Amazon
Amazon has a great, easy-to-use program called Amazon Smile that helps raise money for non-profits, including our very own temple. To participate, go to Amazon via this link:

. It should bring you directly to the Amazon Smile page that has been set up to benefit the temple. You will see "Supporting Temple Shalom Emeth" near the top of the page. However, if that link does not work (we all know that these things sometimes don't cooperate), you can simply go to

and select "Temple Shalom Emeth" as your charitable organization. Then go shopping.
That's all there is to it. As long as you continue to go to Amazon through the Amazon Smile link, the temple will continue to get a donation equal to a percentage of the total price of your purchases. Although any single donation may seem small, it will add up very quickly as more and more people sign us up for it. And there is no need to limit this to temple members. Anyone can choose Temple Shalom Emeth as their Amazon Smile beneficiary, so feel free to spread the word.

Toy Mitzvah at Hanukkah Party
Sunday, Dec. 9, 11:30am
The Social Justice Committee invites you to participate in a Chanukah Mitzvah and donate a new, unwrapped toy, for an immigrant child in need.
Please bring a new, unwrapped gift, appropriate for a child between the ages of 3 and 13, to the Chanukah Party on December 9
th. We will be giving the toys to MIRA, the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, and they will be distributed to children whose families, because of their immigration status, may be struggling and unwilling to accept support from other community organizations or area toy drives.

Ellen Kline Memorial Children's Fund
In loving memory of Ellen Kline, long-time, devoted Temple and sisterhood member. Ellen's life was dedicated to her family, friends and students and all that knew her. She especially loved all children of the Temple and always gave back to anyone in need by lending a helping hand, giving advice and making the world a better place. This fund was created to help a Temple member's child that has a demonstrated emotional, financial or medical need. A committee has been established to oversee the fund and to vet need requests. Please contact the Rabbi for further information so we can help.

FAAB(Free as a Bird) is TSE's empty nester's group. We are a social group for those of us whose children have left the nest and those without children.

Help Needed - Chicken Soup Brigade
Are you interested in helping temple members in need but don't have a lot of free time? If so, this is the perfect way to make a difference. We are currently in immediate need for a few temple members to be on our Chicken Soup Brigade Committee. This would be a fun way to meet some new temple friends and provide a much needed mitzvah at the same time. Your job could be anything from sending out a get well card to organizing meals for a family, planning a Shiva by contacting volunteers to set up and bring food or seeking out volunteers if someone needs a ride to the doctor, etc.
