New Major in Philosophy, Politics and Economics
Our lives and our communities are profoundly shaped by political and economic forces that often seem difficult or impossible to control. College graduates are increasingly expected to think across traditional
boundaries and to have skills that enable them to address complex problems in both the public and private sectors. The next generation of citizens must be able to understand how these forces work, examine their impact, and think carefully about the values at stake in the choices we face. The
Philosophy, Politics and Economics
(PPE) major offers both broad and rigorous training in the foundations of all three disciplines, enabling students to study the forces and institutions that shape the modern world from more than one perspective. The analytical tools and interdisciplinary perspective that the PPE major provides will prepare students for careers in law, business, finance, consulting, public policy and public service, secondary and higher education, and journalism. Pause4Paws at University Libraries During Finals
University Libraries will be offering students a comforting diversion during finals with visits from therapy dogs at several library locations. "Pause4Paws" gives students a chance to visit with animals, providing a few moments of relaxation during the rigors of studying for finals.

Study Skills, Test Taking Strategies and Wellness
With final exams approaching, this can be a particularly stressful time of year. However, there are many resources to support you. You may wish to take advantage of one-on-one support, a group workshop or an online tutorial. Some options are listed here. What would benefit you?

Nominate a Favorite Teacher for an Outstanding Teaching Award
Nominate an arts and sciences faculty member or Graduate Teaching Associate (GTA) for a College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award. These awards are notable because they are completely administered by students through the Arts and Sciences Student Council. Students may submit a nomination here.

The holidays are right around the corner! Are you dreading those conversations with your Great Aunt Sue who will ask you

too personal questions about pretty much everything - including your still amorphous post-graduation plans? Never fear! Great Aunt Sue means well (we hope), and could in fact be a great resource in your internship or job search. Engage with Great Aunt Sue! Tell her about your interests and what types of careers you are considering. It might very well turn out that her friend Tina from Jazzercise has a nephew who works in your field... Sue gets his contact information from Tina, you reach out to set up an informational phone call. He then shares that he knows of a colleague who is hiring and passes along your resume - and BOOM you get an interview! Your network is larger than you might imagine. Education Abroad Scholarships
We Can Help You Afford a Study Abroad!
Are you interested in studying abroad but concerned about the costs? The Keith and Linda Monda International Experience Scholarships are need-based and designed for arts and sciences majors who would not normally be able to study abroad. Remember, you don't need to be admitted to a program in order to apply for a scholarship. You just need to know which program you are applying to. Summer Education Abroad Application Deadlines
Semester break is a good time to talk with your family about studying abroad. As the break approaches, keep in mind that many summer programs have early January application deadlines. This includes programs in May (Summer 4-week session 1). Learn about programs and deadlines here. Many education abroad scholarships also have January deadlines. You do not need to be admitted to a program in order to apply for a scholarship to help you fund this experience. You just need to know what program you are applying to. The Office of International Affairs provides information on funding your education abroad experience here.

Education Abroad Program Spotlight
Berlin Then and Now: People, Places, Experiences
Students will explore and experience Berlin by learning about the people, cultures, institutions, and historical events that have helped shape the city - from its establishment as a capital of the Kingdom of Prussia in the 18th century to its present role as an increasingly international capital of a reunified Germany and an important center of European and world politics. Students will also visit modern-day companies and media corporations, take guided city walks, interact with Berlin's youth, attend artistic events, and have time to explore the city on their own. Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships
The East Asian Studies Center, Center for Latin American Studies and Center for Slavic and East European Studies are seeking applications for fellowships for summer 2019 and academic year 2019 - 20 under the U.S. Department of Education's Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship program. Available for Ohio State graduate and professional school students in need of advanced foreign language and area studies training and select undergraduate students.

Fellowships for Undergraduate STEM Students
From the East Asian Studies Center
F
ellowships are available to juniors or seniors in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field who have successfully completed two years of college-level East Asian language study. Academic Year 2019-2020 fellowships are expected to contribute $10,000 towards tuition and fees and provide a $5,000 stipend. Summer 2019 fellowships are expected to cover $5,000 in tuition and fees and provide a $2,500 stipend. Subject to approval, FLAS fellowships may also be used for foreign language and area studies at other U.S. or foreign institutions. Become a Sesquicentennial Scholar
In the 2019-20 academic year, Ohio State celebrates its 150th anniversary, known as its sesquicentennial. In honor of this milestone, the university will select 150 students to participate in the Sesquicentennial Student Scholar Leadership Program. Selected students will receive a $2,500 scholarship while participating in a leadership development program and representing Ohio State as sesquicentennial ambassadors.
T
his scholarship is renewable up to a maximum of 8 semesters (including the 2019-20 academic semesters) or upon completion of the current degree program, whichever comes first. Renewed scholarships will be overseen by the Office of Academic Affairs and the respective college of each scholar.
Any student in good standing currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or professional program on any Ohio State campus is eligible to apply.

Positive Wellness Messaging
Students looking for positive reinforcement can now easily find it in one of the more unexpected places: the Ohio State app.
The Ohio State App team partnered with USG and Counseling and Consultation Services to launch its 16-week long positive mental wellness messaging campaign October 1. The campaign will create new positive messages and resource highlights that will release every Monday on the campus screen of the Ohio State App.

Holiday and Vacation Tips
Before leaving your campus residence for the holidays, consider a few security issues: take items of value home; lock all doors and windows; disconnect electrical extensions; record serial numbers of your devices; and do not leave money, checks, ID or credit cards in your room. If something is missing when you return, alert the police immediately.

Graduation Survey
As of November 26th, the Graduation Survey is open. To take the survey, visit go.osu.edu/gradsurvey. Your response to the survey will be used to improve the experiences of future Buckeyes. If you have questions or need help with the survey, please contact the Center for the Study of Student Life at [email protected]. As a reminder, the College of Arts and Sciences requires all graduating students to complete the survey before it closes on December 17th.

Get Ready for Finals - Late Night Study Space
Do you need a quiet place for late-night study for finals? The 18th Avenue Library is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Overnight access between 11:30 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. for current students, faculty and staff with your BuckID card. The Terra Byte Cafe located in the library offers evening hours throughout the week as well as weekend hours. The Thompson Library will be open additional hours (until 2 a.m.) from December 5 - 12. All library hours may be found here. Concerned about walking home at night? Call the University's Department of Public Safety and request a safe ride.
