When finance professionals judge your competence by your appearance, how can women compete on a sartorial level with men in bespoke suits? Even beyond external perceptions, how you dress may affect your performance. In a research study, women who wore formal business clothes did better on a cognitive test of abstract thinking than when they or other women were dressed casually.
These ideas prompted Polly McMaster, co-founder of The Fold, to leave a career in finance and develop a fashion brand for women commensurate with their career goals. In a close-up interview, McMaster will share how her experience in finance and consulting gave her the skills to design, manufacture and sell a clothing line for professional women.
Following the conversation, browse The Fold's collection of tailored, fashion-forward business clothing. Share your style tips as you network with peers over drinks and canapes.
A portion of the sales will benefit Maths4Girls, a pilot programme of 100WF and Founders4Schools, the beneficiary of 100WF’s 2019 UK philanthropic initiatives. As part of the Maths4Girls initiative, we are also looking for women in the finance industry to speak to girls, ages 11-14, in classrooms about their academic journeys and jobs as an inspiring introduction to finance as a career. Our goal is to encourage girls to consider a career in finance and to take Maths at A-Level. To register as a Maths4Girls speaker, visit the
