Winter Survival Tips
โ€œOld Manโ€ winter has arrived and has plans of its own. Do you have a plan?

  1. Dress to protect, not impress
  2. Check Twitter, jwuLink and JWU email
  3. Prepare for the unexpected
Winter is not the time to worry about making a fashion statement. Dress in layers and wear comfortable boots (make sure they are waterproof) to prevent feeling too warm while indoors but offers protection from the elements when walking back and forth to class. Donโ€™t forget to protect your head and hands too!
There is nothing more frustrating than finding out classes are cancelled upon arriving on campus. Stay informed about inclement weather and class cancellations by checking one of the following official university resources:

  • JWU emergency alert line: 401-598-555
  • JWU email
  • Twitter: @JWUAlertPVD
  • JWU Alerts website: alerts.jwu.edu/providence
  • jwuLink

Even if classes are still in session, itโ€™s a good idea to check your JWU email in case your professor is not able to make it to class and needs to cancel class.
โ€œExpect the unexpectedโ€ and plan for it. Build in an extra 20-30 minutes into your schedule to allow for delays such as, warming/de-icing your car, car trouble, accidents, traffic, buses (public and JWU) running late, street closures, back-up in the JWU Garage and other situations that may prevent you from being on time for class. Also, make sure to winterize your car and prepare/update your carโ€™s emergency road kit if you drive yourself.
Call for Help Policy
Did you know the Office of Community Standards and Conduct has a new policy? The Office of Community Standards and Conduct is proud to announce its new Call for Help Policy.

Any individual who, in good faith, calls for help in a medical emergency related to alcohol or drug use, or who discloses any incident of violence to JWU officials or law enforcement, will not be subject to JWUโ€™s Conduct Review Process for alcohol or drug use policy violations occurring at or near the time of the commission of the reported incident.
This policy also applies to student organizations and their members involved in the reported incident. Want to know more? Review the full policy in the Student Handbook.
