The Children's Trust Announces
Attention Trust Providers: Growth Plans Due December 15 *
In partnership with contract managers, providers will develop and implement growth plans up to four times per contract year as per the data reporting timeline; visit the Program Metrics page of our website for a complete list of applicable initiatives and requirements. Please note that the growth planning screens in Trust Central have been updated; a guidance document with additional information and instructions can be found on that same page.

Help Us Select a 2019 Champion for Children!
Do you know an amazing staff member or colleague who deserves a round of applause? Nominate them for our new MONTHLY Exemplary Service Award ! Extended to exceptional employees of Trust-funded programs or initiatives, this honor is given to individuals who serve as an inspiration to their colleagues; provide direct service to children and families as their primary duty; and perform their work in a way that exemplifies that the human element makes a genuine difference in the lives of others. (Nominees may not be a manager or executive director.) Winners will be publicly announced and recognized, and comprise the pool from which we'll select the recipient of the 2019 Champions for Children Excellence Award for Direct Service to Children and Families. Training: MINI Assessment Tool
If you are a Trust-funded youth development K-5 provider, mark your calendar for December 13, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., to attend the CAT tool MINI overview training facilitated by Project RISE. At this training, you will become familiar with the MINI, an assessment tool used by The Trust during CAT site observations, and be granted the opportunity to understand how the tool is used to assess your program’s performance as it aligns to your scope of services. This training is open to all Trust-funded K-5 providers and is mandatory for new providers. Training will take place at the United Way Ansin Building, Ryder Room, 3250 SW 3rd Avenue, Miami, FL 33129. Program Management Leadership Academy
Supervisors and managers of direct-line staff in Trust-funded programs are invited to participate in The Children’s Trust Program Management Leadership Academy (aka "The Academy") which will take place in 2019. The Academy is a leadership development program designed to help supervisory leaders of Trust-funded organizations serving children, youth and families move on to the next level of personal and professional growth. Participants will learn effective strategies to handle major leadership and organizational challenges, and will be encouraged to interact, discover and communicate as they build their skills to become awesome leaders! Monthly workshops will be held January through September; attendance is required for all selected. Click here to apply; deadline to apply is next Friday, December 7. Project RISE: SEL Outcome Assessment Trainings
Project RISE has released three online Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Outcome Assessment trainings, which are available to all Trust-funded youth development providers:

  • Child Trends Survey SEL Outcome Assessment Grades K-5
  • PYDI SEL Outcome Assessment Grades 6-12
  • YAPS SEL Outcome Assessment Grades 6-12

Advocacy Network on Disabilities: Upcoming Trainings

  • Discovering Inclusion Training - Now Available ONLINE Discovering Inclusion is an introductory workshop for staff with little or no previous knowledge about children and youth with disabilities and inclusion. It includes an introduction to various types of disabilities, identifying the benefits of inclusion for all, using People First Language and respectful etiquette, and the characteristics of an inclusive program. There is also an opportunity to explore personal beliefs and values.

Workshop: The Science of Trauma in the Early Years
You may have heard about adverse childhood experience (ACE) but do you understand the "why?" behind it? Learn the science of how trauma in the early years affects growth, development and health across lifespans. This training, happening on Tuesday, December 4, is critical for all professionals, advocates and volunteers who work with children or families who have experienced trauma. Certification: Trauma-Informed Human Trafficking
The Center for Human Rights and Social Justice at Barry University announces a trauma-informed human trafficking certification training. Module 1, Introduction to Human Trafficking and Models of Practice: A Trauma-Informed Perspective, is open to the public and is happening December 11-12; Module 2, Advanced Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice with Survivors of Human Trafficking, is open to those with an MSW or advanced degree in a related field, only, and is happening December 17-18. Current Grant Opportunities at The Trust
The Children's Trust has released the following five separate grant opportunities:

  • Early Intervention Summer Camp Full-day summer programs for children ages birth to 5 years (prior to kindergarten entry) with developmental delays or disabilities. Application deadline: Friday, December 7, 5 p.m. EST.
  • Universal Parenting Education Parenting workshops and educational or public health events that foster effective parenting strategies to support child development. Application deadline: Friday, December 7, 5 p.m. EST.
  • Reading Enhancement Services Differentiated literacy intervention (DLI) services in the summer for rising kindergarten, rising first-grade and rising second-grade children. Application deadline: Friday, December 7, 5 p.m. EST.
  • Innovation Fund Innovative ideas and program designs that address existing community needs and have not previously been implemented in our community. Application deadline: Wednesday, December 19, 5 p.m. EST.
  • Small Community-Based Organizations (CBO) Capacity Building Capacity-building supports for child- and family-serving small CBOs in Miami-Dade County. Application deadline: Friday, December 7, 5 p.m. EST.

Early Learning Career Center Scholarships
The Early Learning Career Center, funded by The Children's Trust, is offering professional development scholarships to early childhood educators in Miami-Dade County to improve knowledge, skills, classroom practices and ultimately the quality of care offered to our children. For more information please send an email request to the center at careercenter@thechildrensforum.com that includes your name, facility name and DCF license number, email, phone number and a detailed description of your requested professional development funding.

Available Positions at The Children's Trust

  • Contract Manager To administer and monitor contracts for various programs and services funded by The Children's Trust. This position seeks candidates with project management and or business analyst experiences in data-driven work environments. Responsibilities include assisting with the development and management of the bid solicitation process; monitoring funded programs and services; participating in meetings and professional development activities; managing contract amendments and revisions; managing contract compliance; and examining and using data, processes and systems for organizational goals setting.

Curriculum Specialist
Our Little Ones Learning Center seeks a curriculum specialist for its Head Start program. Responsibilities include supervising and providing support and training to teaching teams in implementing a cognitively oriented curriculum while adhering to program standards and reporting. Must possess master's in early childhood education or child development, or in a related field with a minimum 18 credits in early childhood education; leadership skills also a must.
