Freshman Family Newsletter
October 2018
Dear Class of 2022 Families,

We just came back from Family Weekend and it was great to see so many of you during Family Weekend in Williamsburg. Campus is bustling with opportunities for academics, clubs, and so much more. Two highlights include Fall Break (Oct. 13-16) and Homecoming & Reunion Weekend (Oct. 18-21). Fall Break is a wonderful time for students to catch up on class work, return home to visit friends and family, or unwind from their daily routines.

We hope you have the chance to enjoy the company of your student over Fall Break and we wish you the best for the upcoming month. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Sincerely,
Julie and Mike Matthews P’22
Memphis, TN

Residence Life - Welcome Fall!
Fall brings cooler weather. If your student lives in a building with AC, visit the 18/19 Resource Guide and click on Air Conditioners to learn about our procedures for shut down in buildings that are not individually controlled.

Open, Open, Closed, Open....
It’s never too early to make travel plans. Find out which breaks the halls stay open and which one we close down for on our website

Does your student need an appointment?

Students can walk into the counseling center if they feel that their issues are urgent or they can schedule a triage if they are unable to wait until the next available initial assessment. The Counseling Center is located on the 2nd Floor of the McLeod Tyler Wellness Center.

No More Bugs!

Unless your student is majoring in entomology, they probably don't want bugs in their room. The two most common bugs we find here on campus are ants and the American cockroach, both of which have a tendency to find there way into student's dorms. If your student is having problems with these pests Facilities Management can help! Facilities Management contracts with a professional pest control company that treats our buildings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. To schedule an appointment with an exterminator all your student needs to do is call Work Control at (757) 221-2270.
Parking on Campus:

When you plan a visit to William & Mary the last thing on your mind is probably where you are going to park, that is until you arrive here. Parking your car in the right spot can add a lot of un-needed stress to your visit, but it doesn't have to be that way. Plan ahead and visit our Parking & Transportation website to make sure your trip goes as smoothly as possible.

By now, many of you are home from Family Weekend, and we hope you had a terrific time catching a glimpse of student life at William & Mary. You may have taken a tour of the McLeod Tyler Wellness Center or visited the Cohen Career Center, had lunch with members of your student’s clubs, or attended a professor’s lecture. Most likely, the things you value most about your student’s experience are funded by the Parents Fund!

The Parent & Family Council has challenged all families with a goal of raising at least $1 million to the Parents Fund with 34% of parents making a gift to any area of the university by June 30, 2019.

To help us reach these goals, we introduce the Class Challenge! Which class will have the highest percentage of giving participation at year-end?
We’ll track your progress to see who comes out on top.

Thank you for supporting the Parents Fund!
