What Not to Recycle
Don't put food waste and soiled materials like napkins, paper plates and pizza boxes in your recycling bin. Food waste causes recycling contamination and can turn a lot of recyclables into trash. Never recycle plastic bags or plastic wrap, plastic cups, straws, Styrofoam, paper towels, or tissue. Soggy boxes and papers can't be recycled so keep liquids out of your bin and empty all bottles, cans and boxes. Recycle plastic bags at your local grocery store. Remember, when in doubt - throw it out!
Toys for Tots Collection Locations
The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve distributes toys to children in need at Christmas. You can drop off new, unwrapped toys at the following locations through December 15.
Recycle Old Holiday Lights
If your lights have lost their twinkle, don't throw them away - recycle them at the Municipal Centre! Located at 7401 Meyer Road, Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Click here to see which kinds of lights and cords are accepted.
Keep the Wreath Red
Each year the Fire Department hangs up a wreath decorated with red lights to serve as a constant reminder to practice fire safety during the holiday season . If a fire occurs that was caused by a holiday decoration, a red bulb is removed and replaced with a white one. Please be careful with candles, holiday lights and other decorations and help them "Keep the Wreath Red"!
