The building industry welcomes the continued improvements to the City’s permitting and inspection process. SAHBA has held numerous discussions with City leadership and staff over the course of the year. We appreciate the commitment being shown to ensure that these processes most efficiently meet the needs of the home building community and its customers.
The two new inspection items which have been added to the City of Tucson's permit system are the Residential Intermediate - 01080 & Fire Intermediate - 09010
These items are active and may be used immediately. Some existing permits will be modified to include these items.
The Residential Intermediate will be replacing Framing, Electric Intermediate, Plumbing Intermediate, and Mechanical Intermediate for projects governed by the International Residential Code by combining them into one inspection. All trades must be complete prior to scheduling this inspection. The City will begin attaching this item to residential projects starting January 1, 2019.
The Fire Intermediate will be added to a number of existing activities and will begin being used on some new permit applications immediately. Full scale use of this item should be in effect by January 1, 2019. This item is intended to provide rough-in fire inspections for buildings under construction. By getting the fire department out to the project site prior to the final phase, the intent is to be better positioned to assist with the project to ensure requirements are met prior to applying wall finishes.
