One of the best parts about Thanksgiving is taking the opportunity to stop for a minute and consider all the things in our lives for which we are grateful. At the community Thanksgiving service, we all read together a beautiful piece by Melody Beattie on gratitude:
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It turns problems into gifts, failures into successes, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. It can turn an existence into a real life, and disconnected situations into important and beneficial lessons. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."
And while we were celebrating the holiday, our conference minister Rev. Tamara Moreland got back to us that she will be sending along some mini-profiles of candidates for us to consider. She is keeping in mind our community's needs and knows the level of experience that would be helpful for our church. We are also looking for a time when Rev. Moreland can come visit us, and look forward to connecting with her and with candidates who might feel inspired by the opportunities that serving us will provide. We appreciate your support, your engagement, your patience, and your prayers.

From Jack Bowman, Minister of Music
|
Throughout history, most composers have written music for worship services which in the Roman Catholic tradition included the Eucharist, the sacrament of the Lord’s supper. Wolfgang Mozart, remembered mostly for orchestral and opera repertoire, wrote several masses that were sung during worship in the Cathedral in Salzburg, Austria. One of his most famous masses, first sung in 1779, is knick-named the Coronation Mass and has the traditional sections of the mass including the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. These movements are sung throughout the mass.
This Sunday, our choir, soloists (Jennifer Oberto, Emily Elliott, Betsy Beck, Lee Collins, Charlie Noyes, and Malcolm Brown) and instrumentalists offer sections of Mozart’s mass at the appropriate times in our service. Our service of worship still accommodates the mass music so well. Not much has changed in 239 years.

Collection for the Astor House
|
Christian Action is already looking ahead to Christmas! In addition to the Giving Trees which will be set up in the sanctuary December 2
nd, this year we will be assisting the
Astor House in Millerton. Astor Services for Children & Families is a community based, non-profit organization that provides children’s mental health services, child welfare services, and early childhood development programs. Astor provides support for pre-schoolers, children with behavioral and emotional health problems, children at risk of placement in foster care and families that need assistance in developing the skills necessary to raise their children in an environment filled with increasing challenges. Currently, they serve 33 families.
Astor has told us that the most needed and appreciated items for their clients are very basic: toilet paper, paper towel, bar soap, feminine products, diapers, xmas wrapping paper. So Christian Action will be collecting such donations beginning immediately, to deliver to Astor House in time for their Christmas Open Collection evening where clients come and are able to choose their own necessary items.
Please bring donations to the Church hallway and place in the painted bench. Deadline for Donations is December 16.

About three weeks ago, a fire in Amenia destroyed everything the Juarez family owned.
As you can see from the photos (on attachment) of their new apartment, they have virtually nothing. Esperanza Nuñez, Debi Suby, Heidi Truax and Susanna Schindler have been working with Vecinos Seguros and members of Trinity Church in Lime Rock to support the family in this crisis. We have covered a month’s fuel bill and provided some clothing.....
