Residential Revaluation with KRT Appraisal
Emily Behn, Assessing Department
real-estate-banner3.jpg
The Town of Scarborough will be conducting a town-wide revaluation of all residential properties, with new values becoming effective FY 2019-2020. The Town of Scarborough last completed a town-wide revaluation in 2005. It is important to have a revaluation to ensure that town assessments reflect current market values.

We have hired KRT Appraisal to complete this project. Starting October 2018, Data Collectors from KRT Appraisal will be visiting each property to conduct an inspection. We appreciate your cooperation as it is in the best interest of all property owners to permit access for inspections to ensure all information is accurate. Data Collectors will have photo identification and their information will be registered with the Police Department. Information about the Data Collectors and a map showing which neighborhoods are being inspected are available on the Assessing page of the Town of Scarborough website.

If you have any questions or concerns about the revaluation, please contact our office. The Assessing Department is open to the public 8-4 on Monday through Thursday, and 8-12 on Friday. We can be reached at (207) 730-4060, or you may visit our office in the lower level of the Town Hall, Room 25.

Flood Maps: Appeals & Map Amendments
Brian Longstaff, Zoning Administrator
As part of the flood remapping process, FEMA provides for appeals through Public Law 93-234. Appeals may be filed by the affected community, or private persons within that community, prior to FEMA making final flood hazard determinations. The law is intended to ensure balancing of all interests involved in the setting of flood hazard determinations.

Back in July, we informed the public of the pending 90-day appeal period that would start in August and end on October 30.
Any property owner that believes his or her property rights will be adversely affected by the proposed flood hazard determinations may file an appeal, but it is important to note that the appeal must be based on possession of knowledge or information indicating that the proposed determinations are scientifically or technically incorrect. FEMA will also consider comments regarding things such as incorrect street names or typographical errors. The criteria for data submittals are outlined in Title 44, Chapter 1, Code of Federal Regulations, Section 67.6(b) and also in documents found on the FEMA website.

Recycling...Please Read

This article really is about recycling but puppies are cuter than cans
It is likely you have heard a great deal regarding recycling in the news lately. It can be confusing and difficult to follow. For me, it comes down to this: recycling is a fluid process - as opposed to a static one. It is an ever-changing process that is primarily market driven. Without going into the details of the current market, I will say this: recycling practices have changed, and will continue to change. While this is not ideal, and can lead to confusion and frustration, recycling remains vitally important and it is more important than ever that we do it consistently and correctly.

An INVALUABLE resource is ecomaine's Recyclopedia. It is available online as well as in app form. (Apple and Android) If you are unsure of how to dispose of an item, simply type it into the website/app, and it will direct you as to the best way to dispose of it.
