A NOTE FROM PASTOR DAVID
The Story of Everything

New Testament scholar C. Kavin Rowe, of Duke Divinity School (is there any place else?), recently explored the phenomenal growth of Christianity in the Roman Empire against large odds. One main reason he found for the growth was the narrative the early Christians had. Narrative is critical since we all makes sense of our lives through story. He describes their story as "The Story of Everything" - a story large enough to hold the vast expanse of human existence. It is about all that God has made and how God is remaking all that God created through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Also this story had the added advantage that people could be personally involved as actors in this story as they participate in the work of God through Christ.

Indeed Christianity is the story of everything and the plot of the story reaches its crescendo in the chapter we call Holy Week. I hope you will join us in our Facebook Live services so that you may experience this story - one large enough to hold our world and to require our participation.

Each day there will be a dress-up challenge posted on our Facebook page. Dress up, take pictures and post them on your own social media using #MUMCSpiritWeek and in the Manchaca UMC Group on Facebook. For added fun and spiritual growth, walk with Jesus through Holy Week by using the devotional guide for daily readings, pondering questions and prayer. All who participate will be put in a drawing for fun summer prizes such as a folding camping table, an inflatable swimming pool, and a Hopdoddy Giftcard!

Flowering Cross for Easter
Bring flowers on Saturday, April 11, 2020

Help us transform the rugged  cross into a symbol of new life in Christ! We are keeping our Easter tradition of bringing  flowers to adorn the  cross, even as we maintain safe protocols! If you are able, please come by on Saturday to put  flowers and greenery in the  cross, which will be placed in the walkway between the Child Development Center and the Family Life Center. The  flowering  cross will be part of our Easter worship celebrations!

Please follow these safety guidelines:
  • Many people may find flowers and greenery in their yards. If you need to purchase flowers, please do this during an "essential" trip out - such as to purchase groceries. Fake flowers, which you may have around your house, are also okay.
  • Park under the bell tower to bring your flowers to the cross. If someone else is there, please stay in your car until they have left. Please practice safe distancing!
  • Lots of people will be touching the cross, so remember good hand washing and not to touch your face. Wearing gloves and masks is recommended.
