GaHIN Awards $800,000 to Support Interoperability

GaHIN awarded $800,000 to its members in 2018 through the Intermediary Grant Program to both EHR incentive eligible and non-eligible providers to accelerate technology adoption and the electronic exchange of health information.

This brings the total disbursed through the Intermediary Grant Program to $2.8 million over the past three years.

GaHIN's Intermediary Grant Program helps Georgia's eligibleproviders and hospitals connect to the HIE so they can securely access and share patient information at the point of care. Intermediaries are hospital-based and regional health information exchanges (HIEs) that have direct technical interoperable connections to GaHIN. The program was funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, with the Georgia Department of Community Health passing the funds through to GaHIN to develop and execute the program.

Former GaHIN Board Chair, Dr. Dennis White,
Receives Award for Public Service

Congratulations to Dennis L. White, MSIT, DHA, CEO, Alliant/GMCF, who recently received the 2018 Public Service Award from the National Medical Fellowship (NMF) for his work with Alliant Health Solutions. He was honored at the Atlanta Champions of Health Awards Gala on October 29, 2018 at The Commerce Club.

NMF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the number of underrepresented, minority physicians and other medical professionals to improve access to quality healthcare in underserved communities.

In accepting the award, Dr. White wrote, "The Public Service Award recognizes organizations that champion for healthcare parity for physicians and patients - making it truly humbling to receive this award. Since 1946, more than 30,000 medical students and physicians from underrepresented groups have received scholarships from NMF, including Adrienne Mims, MD, MPH, FAAFP, Alliant's Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.

"A vital part of our work at Alliant is addressing disparities in healthcare. To do this, we build and lead with peer review boards and patient advisory boards. They help guide our quality improvement efforts, making it critical that participants are representative of the populations and providers we serve. We deliver education to minority healthcare professionals to enhance their ability to be effective in improving the quality of care they provide. And, we support local organizations that represent the interests of minority physicians and their patients, such as the Georgia State Medical Association and the Atlanta Medical Association."

Dr. White was instrumental in the formation and operation of  GaHIN, serving as Chairman of the Board until a few months ago. He continues to serve on the Executive Committee and Board. He is shown above with Dr. Denise Hines, Executive Director of GaHIN, and his award.
