Lakeview School

This school year, the class of 2019 visited our nation's capital for two days to tour the sites of Washington D.C.  The students were able to create many wonderful experiences during those two days by visiting sites such as the Capitol, the White House, and the National Mall at night.  In the Capitol the students were able to see where the Speaker of the House resides during the day; when the students finished the tour of the Capitol they were able to visit various D.C. museums such as the Smithsonian's American History Museum, Air and Space Museum, and the Museum of Natural History.  Some students were also able to visit the very unique and fascinating United States Holocaust Memorial Museum which holds artifacts from World War II and the Holocaust that can only be found in this museum.  The Valleyview class of 2019 certainly learned a lot about our nation's capital and our government, but most importantly they all created amazing memories that will certainly last a lifetime.

Thanks to a generous grant from our PTA, Valleyview hosted two "Sampling Days," offering students a little taste of the Denville Farmers Market.  Three local vendors were chosen during last month's Sustainable Sunday; visitors enthusiastically recommended Sweet Niche Bakery, Pickle Licious, and Union Hill Farm.  Many thanks to the teachers who helped slice and serve nearly 500 portions of pound cake and fresh pickles over two days! 7th Graders just planted Union Hill's basil in the School Garden, and we plan to host our next Sampling Day in September with a taste of fresh pesto. Yum!

The TREX 500 Pound Plastic Challenge officially wrapped up earlier this month!  Over 540 pounds of plastic (approximately 41,000 bags) were collected through a team effort between our schools, the Denville Library, and Denville Green Sustainability Committee.  Thanks to Acme, Target, Kohl's and Stop and Shop for being our busiest drop-off locations.  While the TREX Challenge is over, our Green Team challenges your family to cut back on plastic waste this summer.

We would like to congratulate our retirees Mrs. Laurie Klinck, Ms. Silvia Zois, Mrs. Mary Jayne Harris and Mrs. Solange Jean.  You have made an impact on all of the students you have reached and also an amazing contribution to Valleyview community over the years.  You will be missed.

To the Denville Community, Valleyview would like to thank you for all of your support and we wish you a wonderful relaxing summer.  See you in September!
