Faculty partner provides guidance through the pandemic

Nicole Kraft, associate professor in the Ohio State College of Arts and Sciences, is a GOHi faculty partner, who has taught in the Global One Health Summer Institute. Kraft speaks at orientation sessions for new Ohio State students about the importance of mentorship during undergraduate years. One student listened to Kraft’s advice. He switched his major to journalism, and a year later, took Writing and Editing Media, his first class with Kraft, where he sought Kraft’s mentorship.

GOHi is hiring: Assistant to the executive director

This position supports the administrative activities of Global One Health initiative at The Ohio State University by providing high-level administrative support to the executive director. The assistant to the executive director is responsible for setting up meetings and coordinating calendars; coordinating of GOHi communication activities with other GOHi directors across the university; support the logitics, communication, forecasting and analytics for the GOHi Summer Institute; coordinating arrangements for events; and ensuring timely and accurate processing of purchases, travel requests and guest email accounts.

Ethiopian Public Health Institute inaugurates new Food Microbiology Laboratory

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) inaugurated a new Food Microbiology Laboratory on April 14. The cost of the laboratory renovation was fully covered by the institute. GOHi has been providing technical support through review of the design by senior professors from Ohio State. The laboratory renovation was initiated as part of the capacity building initiative through the collaborative food safety project, TARTARE. The project will be providing advanced sequencing machines as part of the capacity building objective.

GOHi collaborator, Samuel Kariuki, appointed acting director general of Kenya Medical Research Institute

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is governed by a Board of Management, which is responsible for all policy matters. Samuel Kariuki, PhD, who is part of GOHi’s OHEART project, now serves as KEMRI’s acting director general.

In remembrance of Rita de Cássia, professor at Federal University of Paraíba

Key collaborator and longtime member of the GOHi family, Rita de Cássia, professor at Federal University of Paraíba, passed away on May 2 due to COVID-19. GOHi extends our sincere condolences to her family and friends.
