FEATURED EVENT: American Education Month Photo Contest
Thank you to Glencoe senior Lena Gill for taking time to recognize math teacher Neysa Hammond for the American Education Month Photo Contest. Neysa writes: "Mrs. Hammond helped me immensely with pre-calculus. She was always willing to help me during lunch or after school. She made math fun rather than dreadful and always kept a positive attitude! She was one of my most influential and favorite teachers ever!" See other photos and entry guidelines on our website and submit your photo by Friday, Nov. 30, for a chance to be featured in Hot News and earn lunch with Superintendent Mike Scott.

Hilhi Girls Soccer Team Supports Colleagues in Hood River
UPCOMING
EVENTS
Last fall, we told you about the Hilhi Girls Soccer team giving "secret sister" gifts and a $500 donation to their rivals at Hood River Valley High School in support of relief efforts for the Eagle Creek Fire that devastated the Gorge. This year, the team decided to donate another $1,500 toward rebuilding efforts, keeping the spirit of giving alive. Coach Dean Miyama explains: "More than the lessons learned from being part of a team and competing, it's nice for the players to embrace the fact that we need to help out everyone, not just friends and family, but strangers and opponents as well." Read more about their generous donation here.

Economic Forecast and Budget Outlook
Oregon's December revenue forecast was released on Wednesday, Nov. 14. The forecast indicates current growth remaining strong with solid gains in the near-term, and slowing to a more sustainable rate in the outlying years. This growth does not necessarily mean more money for K-12 education, however. Without a strong commitment to K-12 education in the Legislature's 2019 budgeting process and/or statewide revenue reform, HSD could be facing a shortfall of more than $20 million in the 2019-21 biennium. Read more on the Budget Matters page of our website.

#GivingTuesday
By now, we've passed Black Friday and Shop Local Saturday and are in the midst of Cyber Monday, but tomorrow is an equally noteworthy day: #GivingTuesday! This is a day dedicated to non-profit organizations whose work supports people in need and important causes in our community throughout the year. Consider a gift to the Hillsboro Schools Foundation, to your local school, or to your favorite charity(ies) this holiday season!
