Moab Festival of Science
October 3-7, 2018
The 3rd annual Moab Festival of Science is just days away! The festival aims to connect and inspire the citizens of southeastern Utah with the wonders of science and the thrill of scientific discovery.
To kick off the festival, we are hosting a
free screening of Into the Inferno on Wednesday, October 3 at 6:00 PM in the Moab Library. In this 2016 documentary, Werner Herzog and volcanologist Clive Oppenheimer travel the globe and visit volcanoes in Indonesia, Ethiopia, and North Korea in an attempt to understand our relationship with one of nature's wonders. The film is 104 minutes long and not rated.

Nicole Walker
Moab Festival of Science Keynote

Nicole Walker is the author of the forthcoming book
Sustainability: A Love Story. In her talk, Walker will discuss how nonfiction writing offers a way to re-see and revise our relationship to the planet and to ourselves.
Walker is a professor at Northern Arizona University and a recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, a notable essayist in Best American 2008, 2014, 2015, and 2016 and nonfiction winner of Best of the Net in 2013 and 2014.
Presented in partnership with the Moab Festival of Science and the Utah Humanities Book Festival.

Out of the Woods: Seeing Nature in the Everyday. With a background in journalism and environmental studies, Corbett writes both academic research and creative nonfiction about human relationships with the natural world.

WiFi Hotspots & Chromebooks available for checkout!
To increase internet access in Grand County, the library is now offering WiFi hotspots and Chromebooks for a 7 day checkout period!
A WiFi hotspot is a device you can use to connect gadgets, such as a laptops or tablets, to the internet. The hotspot is portable so you can use it to access the internet (via T-Mobile's network) at home or on the go.
The library's Chromebooks are small laptops that run Google's Chrome Operating System (instead of Windows or macOS). They are designed to be used primarily while connected to the internet to access applications or documents that live in the cloud.
Funds for this project have been provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act and are administered by the Utah State Library Division.

Job Opening
The library has an opening for a part time (not eligible for benefits) Library Clerk position.
The position will have a regular schedule of 1-5pm Fridays and 9am-5pm Saturdays with the opportunity for additional fill-in shifts.

KZMU Audio Book Club
We will be on air with Back of Beyond Books at 5pm on Monday, October 1 for KZMU's monthly Audio Book Club! The show will include a discussion of what we're reading, bestsellers, and local literary events. During this month's show, we will also interview special guest Amy Irvine, author of
Desert Cabal: A New Season in the Wilderness.
