Call to Convention
June 2019
You are invited to this year's Annual Convention
Join us for the 235th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT. Please note that this year’s Convention will be on Saturday and Sunday, and will include an ECCT-wide worship service on Sunday morning.

As a part of this year’s Convention, we are continuing to try on the new model for conducting our business together, creating space for prayer and the worship of God, meaningful conversation, and the opportunity for generative work that will help us faithfully live into our work in this new missional age. This email contains more details about this new process, as well as other important information about Convention. In addition, all information about this year's Annual Convention is on the ECCT website.

Sunday: ECCT-Wide Worship
We've Come This Far by Faith

Convention continues on Sunday with a gathered worship service for Episcopalians all over our state at 11:00 a.m. Come worship with your sisters and brothers across Connecticut at the Connecticut Convention Center, and hear the Good News as proclaimed the Rt. Rev. Barbara Harris, the first woman to be consecrated a bishop in the Anglican Communion. Our venue this year allows us the unique opportunity to hold a worship service where all are welcome to attend and take part in our sacramental life.

Prior to worship, there will be a light breakfast offered at the Convention Center for all attendees, an excellent opportunity to connect with your fellow Episcopalians from around the state.

Registration for Sunday is free but requires separate registration from your Convention registration. Anyone who wishes to participate in worship at this year's Annual Convention needs to reserve a spot for themselves using the link below.*

We encourage each parish to send at least 12 members to our gathered worship on Sunday. In addition, information is available for clergy who wish to organize lay-led Morning Prayer at their parish for those not attending.

* Please note that this is a correction from the instructions sent out in the printed version of the Call to Convention letter, which erroneously stated that worship registration was included in your Convention registration.

Submit a Question for Convention
As a part of the process for Convention, you are encouraged to consider a question that you would like the Convention to work on together in lieu of a more traditional resolution. You can learn more about this process by referring to the enclosed document, “Convention’s New Look.” A form to submit a question for consideration is available on the Annual Convention page of our website.
Resolutions
We will continue to accept duly submitted resolutions that follow the format and guidelines found on the Annual Convention page of the website. All resolutions must be received by the Secretary of Convention before the deadline of September 14, 2019. If you are thinking of a resolution, you are encouraged to consider whether you might submit it instead as a question, as per the details above. Questions considered by Convention will receive far more extensive conversation and exploration than is currently possible with resolutions.
Reports
Reports to Annual Convention should be submitted to the Secretary of Convention by September 14, 2019 in order to allow sufficient time for members of Convention to read and review their contents. Sponsors of resolutions adopted at the previous Convention are expected to submit a report to the Convention about actions taken to implement the resolution and any outstanding work that remains to be done.
Saturday Evening Program: Centennial Evensong & Reception

Following our business session on Friday evening, Convention will re-convene at our Cathedral for Evensong and to commemorate our Cathedral’s centennial anniversary. A reception will be hosted at the Cathedral House with food, music, and dancing.

This event is free, and pre-registration is required.  Parking is available at the MAT Garage (next door to Hartford Stage). Our Cathedral will validate parking tickets.

Parish Delegates to Convention

All parishes must report their elected lay delegates to the Secretary of Convention so that we can ensure that they received timely information and updates pertinent to their participation. Delegate and alternate reports should be submitted through the ECCT Parish Survey. If you have previously completed the survey, and you have double-checked that the information your reported for your delegates and alternates is still accurate, then no further action is needed. If you have not yet filled out the Parish Survey, please do so before June 15, 2019. If you need assistance accessing or completing the Parish Survey, please contact Matt Handi at The Commons for help (203-639-3501 x107, [email protected]).
Elections at Convention

The 235th Annual Convention will hold elections for positions on the Standing Committee, Mission Council, General Convention Deputation, and Provincial Synod Delegation. Details about each election are on the Annual Convention page of the website. All individuals wishing to run for one of these elected seats must complete an electronic biographical form, which is found on the Annual Convention page of the website. As per the Canons of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut, the Secretary of Convention must receive all nominations for elected positions no fewer than six weeks before Convention. This year’s deadline is September 14, 2019.
